That dude asked a question and I asnwered As for why funk's being discussed...look at the subject header.

Look, I'm a blues fan primarily, so it's not like I get pleasure saying this. I wish many traditional forms of music still excited the youth and sat side-by-side w/ current genres these days. I've always thought that music appreciation classes, not just leanring to play music, but learning to listen to it as well...should be taught in schools. This would help keep some of the older forms intact (as opposed to sampled) and allow them to inspire.

Well I'm connected to a wireless network tonight so I can hear those videos. I'm sorry but I'm not feeling this "new funk" at all. It sounds too jazzy and bluesy for my taste. It reminds me of stuff from the late 60s and early 70s which is before I got into music. I got into music during the disco era and funk was still going on while disco was going on. I love the change that funk made during the disco era by sounding less jazzy and bluesy and sounding more dancefloor oriented. And the funk that existed in the early 80s continued to be for the dancefloor.

This "new funk" sounds too much like the early 70s for my taste. I mean, it's OK, I can listen to it (well, some of it, but not all of it) but it's not something I would go out and buy. It reminds me more of the music from the old blaxsploitation movies where the music was on a jukebox and people were just simply sitting around drinking in a "bar" that didn't even have a dancefloor. I like my funk for the ass.

I'm not downing the new funk by no means because Lord knows we need a style change. But I'm only 41 and it sounds "before my time". Actually, I have heard similar music in my area on public radio that plays a variety of music because their goal is "preserving the arts". I'm all for preserving the arts but I've never been an artsy/farsty type person myself and the type of funk I like would never be considered as "the arts". Oh Lord, I hope it never is but if things keep up like they are in the mainstream, it just might be one day.

I'm sorry but you got that backwards. Black folks used to change styles every five years or so. I was happy keeping right up with the style changes until the Shitney Houston adult contemporary era of the late 80s but at least a change did come about five years later after she ruined things and the style change after the late 80s was called "dance" which actually been underground all along but was called "house". The problem started when black folks stopped changing. They got on this midtempo shit hop bullshit and haven't gotten off of it for damn near 20 years. That's because of these white owned labels keeping that shit dominating by not signing anything else.
