I love SAINT ETIENNE! I recently found a copy of their 100th best of comp London Conversations with an NTSC version of the DVD of videos and listening to the CDs is absolutely dreamy. I already have all their main studio albums, but hearing this rapid-fire succession of stellar singles is almost too much to handle. I love them. LOVE THEM.
However, I was a little disappointed that the DVD of videos didn't include the sexier go-go dancer version of "You're In A Bad Way", but I already have that one on iTunes so it's no big deal. That was the song/video that got me into the band in the first place: You're In A Bad Way Video Love them. LOVE THEM.

Ditto!
I also buy everything and more. I'm loving this compilation too and I'm also getting the extended remastered re-releases. Excellent!

Oh!
I went and bought the second album (my first) the day I saw You're In A Bad Way on MTV too

I went and bought the second album (my first) the day I saw You're In A Bad Way on MTV too I heard "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" first and was never a fan of that song (didn't like it at all initially really) so even after seeing the "You're In A Bad Way" video, I only allowed myself to get the first singles comp, Too Young To Die. Then a friend force fed me some albums until I cried uncle and bought them all myself.

I'll be bankrupt with you. The new comp has opened my ears a bit in that I'm liking the albums a lot more now. I listened to Interlude last night and thought to myself "I don't remember this disc being this good".

Love this group. "Woodcabin" is my favorite by them.

I was working in a music shop (sorry, in org parlance: "Wrecka stow") when He's On The Phone came out and must have heard it twenty times a day for weeks on end - but still I think it's a great pop single. This is not an exit

So true. So. True. • Did you first think Prince was gay? •
Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

I sold my Travel Edition CD on ebay for $2 today. I don't need more than one singles comp really. Now the rarities collections are a different story.

I love them too. I'm glad I never was one of those 'I have to have every weird 12"' types because, being a St. Etienne & Fall fan, I would have no retirement plan.

Count me in. I love Saint Etienne. Any band that can interpolate Rush's "The Spirit of Radio" deserves my attention! I haven't followed them too closely since the first two albums, but I recently got Tales From Turnpike House and am very impressed. I will have to get that compilation. Thanks for bringing it up. You being a Saint Etienne fan surprises me. I would have thought them much too slick and disco-y for your tastes.

You being a Saint Etienne fan surprises me. I would have thought them much too slick and disco-y for your tastes. I actually really like a fair bit of disco & dance-pop. It's not my favourite style of course, but I enjoy it as a change of pace every now & then. Chic, Donna Summer, & Pet Shop Boys are big favourites of mine.

You being a Saint Etienne fan surprises me. I would have thought them much too slick and disco-y for your tastes. i think StEt does a good job of straddling disco-ey/dance-y music and experimental electronica and good ol' music geek retro producer emulation. think about an album like 'sound of water' or even (gag) 'places to visit' - there's a lot of fairly obtuse stuff on those albums. and you can tell bob stanley is a big fan of how pop music was recorded in the 60s and early 70s, because some of those sounds shine through in their music. that's one of the things i've always loved about saint etienne - you can either enjoy the pretty, melodic music or you can dig into all the things they're trying to work out and pick out all kinds of interesting things.

so this is a new comp? is it their best? if not, which comp is their best? It is a new comp and of all the ones I've heard, I think it's Saint Etienne's best. It has their new single "Method Of Modern Love" (not a cover ) which is positively divine.

Yes, the retro element is a very important reason why I like them so much. How can you go wrong by sampling Dusty Springfield, really?
