I still kinda feel bad that Michael and the Jacksons didn't record in Hitsville USA after 1969 as they did with the first album. Hearing Michael's voice with Uriel Jones' drumming, James Jamerson' bass playing and Earl Van Dyke's organs with the Detroit Symphony and the Andantes (YES I said it) would've been heaven. Michael should've been born in 1948.

Lets just pray the mastering is from the original sources and not "digitally remastered" as Motown always fuck up their own remasters. Early 90's CD reissues I own of "music and me" and "maybe tommorrow" sound awful. Hopefully they have learnt from their mistakes. Fuck, they made David Cassidy's solo album sound good on CD, so come on Motown, just do your homework and don't fuck up for once LOL.

As far as I know, "farewell my summer love" never got a CD release, so its cool to get them on CD. I love some of those tracks. I like how they sorta sound Maurice Starresque, though some of the material itself was pretty ropey (not surprising). It will be cool to hear all the original versions too.

Michael was supposedly not happy with "farewell my summer love". Reportedly saying "i dont even like some of those songs" LOL. "To make my father proud" is up their with other "gems" like "time explosion" in the "WTF is this?" stakes....

Just dug out "joyful jiukebox music" (why isn't that included on the new set LOL), and actually "the eternal light" ain't half bad. "We're here to entertain you" got exposure from that 80's Motown made documentary that me and all my mates used to watch as kids, but its so las vagasy and silly. Mike sings it well though (he always sang some of the crap Motown gave him surprisenly well LOL), which makes it a guilty pleasure of sorts. "Make tonight all mine" is OK aswell. The title track is terrible though. Really terrible LOL. Even mentioning the beatles in the song So bad its good.

Be nice if they could just put "the eternal light" on there

I love We're Here To Entertain You, Through Thick and Thin, and You're My Best Friend My Love, but I can't stand their cover of Pride and Joy it sounds so off beat and weak. You can tell they rushed it out (The Jacksons LP was coming out in 2 weeks)

I'll be glad to get "in our small way" on CD. I got it twice on vinyl (its on both "got to be there" and "ben"), but both are beaten up from when I was a kid. One of my fav early Michael tracks that one.

according to Jackson5ABC and Jackson Family Database, Farewell My Summer Love was issued a couple of times:

First it was issued as "Farewell My Summer Love 1984" then the 1984 part was removed, then issued in 1988 as Here I Am (Come And Take Me), then it was issued again on CD in Germany under it's original name but with a different album cover

Joyful Jukebox Music didn't get issued on CD until 2004 along with Boogie.

Boogie was released about 2 or 3 weeks after The Jacksons released Destiny (coincidence?)

Motown/Natural Resources were going to release it as a Jacksons album but the brothers sought legal action and Motown used "Jackson 5" instead and then the album went out of print shortly after.


Hip O Select got access to Motown's vaults and re-released Joyful Jukebox Music and Boogie as 2 CD set. They also released "In Japan!" on CD also
