bboy87...can you give us a list of possible songs that are from this project? Besides "Buttercup"? I'm sure you have a list of unreleased songs from 1973 that may have been intended for this album.

sure!

You're Supposed To Keep Your Love For Me (later re-recorded by jermaine)
No News Is Good News
Buttercup
A Pretty Face Is / Pretty Faces(later re-recorded around 1987-89 for either Bad or Dangerous as a duet between Michael and Stevie)

possible inclusions may be (according to arXter at MJJC:
Would I Live For You, Would I Die For You
Bumble-Bee Of Love
Sky Blue Afternoon
The Future
If Your Mama Could See You Now

It's really interesting and I have fun researching all of this lol

It's 6 albums really. That's less then 10 per LP.

How the f*** do you figure that?

The first disc is 'Got To Be There' (72) and 'Ben' (72) disc two is 'Music and Me' (73) and 'Forever, Michael' (75) and disc three is 'Farewell My Summer Love' (84) and 'Lookin' Back to Yesterday' (86). Assorted songs from Anthology (95) are included also. After checking out the tracklist, I noticed they didn't include 86 version of Twenty-Five Miles.

Motown put those trashy ass '80s mixes, least there's a skip button. lol Trust me, Motown will never put out a "complete" collection. Hell they didn't get all of Marvin's joints on his box set, they totally ignored his pre-Stubborn Kind of Fellow recordings, lol. lol

I still kinda feel bad that Michael and the Jacksons didn't record in Hitsville USA after 1969 as they did with the first album. Hearing Michael's voice with Uriel Jones' drumming, James Jamerson' bass playing and Earl Van Dyke's organs with the Detroit Symphony and the Andantes (YES I said it) would've been heaven. Michael should've been born in 1948. lol

Ooh, 48 is a little to early, I'd say around 55, than they'd have come to Motown around 64/65, right at the peak of the empire.

Lets just pray the mastering is from the original sources and not "digitally remastered" as Motown always fuck up their own remasters. Early 90's CD reissues I own of "music and me" and "maybe tommorrow" sound awful. Hopefully they have learnt from their mistakes. Fuck, they made David Cassidy's solo album sound good on CD, so come on Motown, just do your homework and don't fuck up for once LOL.

As far as I know, "farewell my summer love" never got a CD release, so its cool to get them on CD. I love some of those tracks. I like how they sorta sound Maurice Starresque, though some of the material itself was pretty ropey (not surprising). It will be cool to hear all the original versions too.

Michael was supposedly not happy with "farewell my summer love". Reportedly saying "i dont even like some of those songs" LOL. "To make my father proud" is up their with other "gems" like "time explosion" in the "WTF is this?" stakes....

.....Well OK, nothing tops "time explosion" LOL

Is there an official word that the Stevie-Michael album was completed? Or did they only do a few songs before scrapping the idea?

Not sure how far they got with it,but a first single was chosen: "Buttercup".Interestingly, this song was finally released in 1982,recorded by a singer named Carl Anderson.Listen to his version and try to picture a young Michael Jackson singing it in 1973:

If Motown were able to pick a first single,I'm betting that the project was finished.

I have his album. Great stuff nod

This is totally radical from the broadway stuf he's known for.

The intro is bizarre, not just by jackson standards, but anyones LOL. Then the song starts, and its some dirgy, mindless, psuedo funk mess. I find it oddly enjoyable lol Jermaine sounds good on it though.

Just dug out "joyful jiukebox music" (why isn't that included on the new set LOL), and actually "the eternal light" ain't half bad. "We're here to entertain you" got exposure from that 80's Motown made documentary that me and all my mates used to watch as kids, but its so las vagasy and silly. Mike sings it well though (he always sang some of the crap Motown gave him surprisenly well LOL), which makes it a guilty pleasure of sorts. "Make tonight all mine" is OK aswell. The title track is terrible though. Really terrible LOL. Even mentioning the beatles in the song lol So bad its good.

Be nice if they could just put "the eternal light" on there

Joyful Jukebox Music was out of print for YEARS. I remember just happening to find it on cassette in the 90s by chance lol

I love We're Here To Entertain You, Through Thick and Thin, and You're My Best Friend My Love, but I can't stand their cover of Pride and Joy mad it sounds so off beat and weak. You can tell they rushed it out (The Jacksons LP was coming out in 2 weeks)

I found the vinyl years ago at a record fair. US print aswell (I live in UK, but I presume UK Motown never pressed a UK copy). "Through thick and thin" is OK I guess. Jermaine's verses are good, but I dont like the hook. You dont like the title track do you?

I'll be glad to get "in our small way" on CD. I got it twice on vinyl (its on both "got to be there" and "ben"), but both are beaten up from when I was a kid. One of my fav early Michael tracks that one.

You're right. There was no UK pressing of Joyful Jukebox Music, just the US and Argentina

according to Jackson5ABC and Jackson Family Database, Farewell My Summer Love was issued a couple of times:

First it was issued as "Farewell My Summer Love 1984" then the 1984 part was removed, then issued in 1988 as Here I Am (Come And Take Me), then it was issued again on CD in Germany under it's original name but with a different album cover

Yeah, I remember reading about the 1984 thing. No idea any CD copy of "farewell.." existed though. I assumed before that "joyful jukebox music" is not on CD, but now Iam wondering is it then? And what about that rare "boogie" album I remember reading about years ago. Japan imports?

Joyful Jukebox Music didn't get issued on CD until 2004 along with Boogie.

Boogie was released about 2 or 3 weeks after The Jacksons released Destiny (coincidence?)

Motown/Natural Resources were going to release it as a Jacksons album but the brothers sought legal action and Motown used "Jackson 5" instead and then the album went out of print shortly after.

Hip O Select got access to Motown's vaults and re-released Joyful Jukebox Music and Boogie as 2 CD set. They also released "In Japan!" on CD also

Wow, I get those re-issues are quite hard to find, even now. Prety much everytime the jacksons, or Mike released something new, so would Motown (makes sense to). Even "invincible" saw the rather pointless release of "love songs".

The Hip O Select reissues are "limited edition" but I seem them all the time lol

With the original mixes coming out, info about rare appearances and possibly more outtakes leaking soon, "For The Record" may need some revising lol
