Dish Network doesn't carry TV One. Bummer.

Anyway, the "I don't know who she is, so she can't be that popular or influential" is very much a young mindset. Not being critical here; I thought along those lines to a certain extent at one point in time. Melba had a successful run on the charts from the mid-70s to 1990. I don't have my handy dandy Billboard R&B book in front of me, so I can't give specifics, but here's allmusic's rundown on her chart history:

I'm not young but i can understand why someone in their 20's or
30's is not familiar with Melba Moore. I was a teenager in the 80's
and i'm not that familiar with Melba Moore. She's had songs on
the radio over the years but unless you are a die hard it's hard
to say okay remember Melba Moore's signature song. I can honestly say
from the list above i'm only familiar with Love's comin at ya, when
you love me like this, and i vaguely remember her duet with Freddie
Jackson a lil bit more. Musically she doesn't have standout signature
hits like aretha, chaka, natalie cole, gladys knight, or female artists
from her era. Sometimes chart singles can be misleading due to the
competition at the time of the chart single. For example, Jeffrey Osborne's
She's on the left went number 1 in 1988 but how many jeffrey osborne fans
even remember that song or request it in concert or on the radio. You're
bound to hear stay with me tonight more. Nevertheless it's crazy to say she's
not important as she was an accomplsihed actress as well as a singer.

To be honest before Sunday's show, all I really knew from Ms. Moore was "Love's Comin' at Cha". That's about the only Melba joint I heard playing on the radio. I knew a little of "This Is It" though and I knew she did "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing", lol.

I'm very familiar with Melba Moore and her music. Her songs were very popular on our local R&B stations. She was one of the first artists to benefit from the "Kashif sound" which was so popular in the 80s.Once she started working with him,the hits started coming one after the other.Songs like "Love's Coming At Ya","Living For Your Love","Keepin My Lover Satisfied","Falling","Just A Little Bit More" (with Freddie Jackson),"A Lot Of Love (Love The One I'm With)" (with Kashif),"It's Been So Long" and "Read My Lips" were popular with R&B audiences. She even had several hits in the disco era: "You Stepped Into My Life","This Is It" and "Pick Me Up I'll Dance".However, she didn't have any crossover hits that reached the pop charts, which is probably why so many of you don't know these songs.Natalie,Aretha,Diana and Patti all had those big crossover hits.

Wow, folks are farting "holier than thou" tunes now?

Its funny how one can pass judgements on people for the mistakes they did(no matter how repetitive they are) instead of commanding them for enduring it and moving on. Nevermind the fact that NONE OF US have lived her life but herself.

Some of ya'll are bunch of miserable fucks, I swear lol

Many people are not familiar with Melba because she never crossed over to a whiter, I mean, wider audience biggrin , therefore, her music was only relegated to black radio. Again, she was HOT in the 80s. Most people who were listening to black radio in the 80s knew exactly who Melba Moore was. Can't believe many of you never heard of her #1 song "Falling". That was, by far, one of the most popular R&B songs in 1986.

Melba's story is very similar to Miki Howard's. Miki's husband was also her manager and he was responsible for her losing a nice record deal with Atlantic, divorced her, took her money and black-balled her from the industry.

Did you notice the difference in tone when she was singing with the broadway folks? she is choosing to use the raspy cracked voice for whatever reason.

Like too many talented artists, Melba has been systematically forgotten. She has a stunning catalog. ALL of which is out of print. Not even a comprehensive "best of" disc. In terms of talent and quality recordings, she was right up there with the best entertainers of the '70s and '80s. Show tunes, pop, soul, disco, dance, rock, r&b, etc... She has done it all very well. Artists like Melba are the reason I keep my turntable.

I wasn't too into this one, mostly b/c I couldn't even remember "the" song by her until they played it in the show confused I know who she is, but DAMN I didn't know all the shit that happened to her. Sad, man... & had no idea she & Clifton were together!! eek Clifton was hella cute back in the day!

The present day singing in the club was hard to watch, she was putting it on SO thick! I felt embarrassed for her. But the song w/ her stepfather @ the piano was nice. I hope she gets back on track in some way...
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

I was going to say, yes there is a comprehensive CD that features her works but I just found out it's out of print and the seller on amazon are asking for anywhere between $74 and $163 for it!!! I'm sure you can get it much cheaper on Ebay, thought. It's called "This Is It:The Best Of Melba Moore.

nod I have that CD

I Am His Lady
Lean On Me
This Is It
Falling
I Can't Complain (with Freddie Jackson)
It's Been So Long
Keepin' My Lover Satisfied
A Little Bit More (with Freddie Jackson)
Livin' For Your Love
Love Me Right
Love The One I'm With (A Lot Of Love) (with Kashif)
Love's Comin' At Ya
Mind Up Tonight
Read My Lips
Take My Love
You Stepped Into My Life

With 16 tracks,it's hard to complain about this set.All of the main hits are accounted for but even so,there are a few notable omissions.Where is her 1979 disco hit "Pick Me Up,I'll Dance" or the heavily-hyped single she did in 1990 with the all-star choir,"Lift Every Voice And Sing"? Otherwise, this is an excellent overview of her career, despite the less-than-thrilling cover photograph.
