X.
It's her "Sign O' The Times". It sounds like a Greatest Hits, with its mix of styles. The diversity of the musical styles is its strength, not its weakness. You've got the Glam Rock stomp of '2 Hearts'; 'All I See' which sounds like early-nineties Janet; 'Cosmic' which could easily be covered by Streisand... That's without even mentioning the electro-pop bangers. It's her only album since Rhythm Of Love which I can listen to without skipping. Body Language. Some great gems on here, but so many of the B-Sides could have replaced some of the weaker album tracks. Love the U.S. bonus track 'You Make Me Feel': it sounds like Kylie fucking on the back seat of a car, with the engine ticking over - in the middle of a forest - at night. Light Years. It's just a tad too kitsch for my liking. Overtly cutesy. Fever. It's unlistenable as an album. Very, very samey.

The thing with the Kylie's LPs of this decade is that, all things considered, they are all pretty different from each other. One person's preference could be totally different from the next person and their reasons will, more likely than not, be valid. Anyway...
My favorite Kylie album of the 2000s is BY FAR: * First of all, Kylie rarely treads into R&B territory and when she had in the past, like on "Kylie Minogue '94" (another GREAT, unappreciated album of hers; if you listen to "Body Language" and enjoy it you will enjoy this album just as much if not more), the results were almost always great. This album definitely represents that side of Kylie and the songs have a more sensual, deep and even soulful sound. This album, IMO, has WAY more musical depth (some of the melodies are CRAZY on this album and it's really great to hear Kylie sing on layered tracks that really bring her voice out) than any of her other 2000s material and the production is absolutely stellar and contain none of the "cheapness", so to speak, that some of the songs on the other albums on the decade have. She quite seamlessly strings together 80s pop and 90s R&B, trance, disco, hip-hop and the concept is very focused yet, unlike albums like "Fever" and "Light Years", she stepped out of the box and attempted to please a different crowd (I'd actually include myself in that crowd) than she usually targets. Kudos to Kylie for that. Last, honestly, there are very few things that don't work here. "After Dark" was actually the song that turned me into a Kylie Fan - The melody, arrangement, lyrics, vocals are all incredible. Other songs like "Slow", "Loving Days" and "I Feel For You" are notable for the fact that, well, they sound like nothing else in her collection...and that makes them (and the album itself) stand apart. The ONLY song that simply doesn't do it for me is "Secret", which is atrocious. You may not be able to start a party with "Body Language" but the greatest quality and longevity is in this album. GirlBrother: I like "You Make Me Feel" too #2: #3: #4. * The only thing on here I like better than the smokin' hot cover is "Spinning Around", which you've probably heard before. While there are some songs I enjoy such as "On A Night Like This", "So Now Goodbye", "Under The Influence Of Love", and the title track, most of this album is very kitchy, highbrow and love-or-hate. A lot of it seems very throwaway to me and this album is not her best collection of material nor her most accessible. It's pure cotton-candy, in every single (musically-related) way possible. Don't get me wrong: You should definitely have it (if purely for its significance to her career) if you're trying to get into Kylie but don't start here [Edited 6/17/09 0:48am]

Funny- that's my favorite on Body Language by far and in my top 3 Kylie songs ever. I love the whole album though. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

"Money Can't Buy" was great, and she just looked stunning during that era. There were also some quite good arrangements done for the music too if you just listen to them. I love the synth sounds used on the instrumental parts on "Chocolate" for example, I think they are better than what can be heard on the record. Despite - or thanks to - Kylie's rather garish outfit for that segment it's still the sexiest pop music performance I've seen.
I'm sure I don't manage to come off sounding entirely non-homophic when stating this, but after that her shows ventured a little bit too much into the pleasing the gay audience audience territory. It seemsed like her "creative director", who is apparently one of her closest friends too, was allowed to realize too many of his personal fantasies for the performaces. Some of the segments on the "Showgirl / X" -tours were just simply stupid, I thought. The gay appeal has been long a part of her, but on the recent tours she has looked like the owner of a male whorehouse on some of the numbers. Just my view on it, but I'm sure many who attended the shows or watched them on TV / youtube share it. Plus, her singing isn't as good as it was before. It was never that great of course, but at least she always sings live in concerts and I find the tone of her voice rather attractive, actually.

I wish she would have toured for Body Language. I think it would have made for an excellent show, and the album definitely deserved it. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Disagree. I think she was at her strongest vocally on the X tour.

Oh well.
Okay let's just agree then that her previous batch of American TV performances weren't the best she has ever done.

Kylie's voice is getting much better with age and training, she's always been pitch perfect which is a help. Showgirl and Showgirl:Homecoming were totally camp but that's what they wanted to do. X was back to the dancers being totally covered up except for a number like that been in previous Kylie tours.
