Christina Aguilera New Album Due September

Christina Aguilera Recording with Le Tigre
The "Dirrty" pop star experiments with different sounds on her September release.

(Christina & Le Tigre)

"Christina Aguilera sure has come a long way from her "Genie in a Bottle" days. For her upcoming September album, Light & Darkness, she recorded songs with British electronic acts Goldfrapp and Ladytron, plus former Zero 7 singer Sia, as SPIN.com reported last summer.

Now, Perez Hilton says that über-feminist punk group Le Tigre will join "Xtina" in the studio to work on the album.

Known for their bold lyrics and outspoken support of gay/lesbian and women's rights, Le Tigre had been on a musical hiatus since 2007. Dogged by rumors of a split, singer Kathleen Hanna (formerly of the "riot grrrl" band Bikini Kill) took to the group's MySpace in April to proclaim that Le Tigre had not broken up. And now comes this news.

In fact, Sia might be the one responsible for getting Le Tigre on board with the project. She and bandmember JD Samsom have been romantically linked -- and as she told SPIN.com, she thinks Christina is "rad"!

Alternative electro-rockers Le Tigre have just been added to the list of collaborators for Christina Aguilera's upcoming fourth studio album "Light & Darkness".

The all female lesbian 3-piece are best known for their underground hit "TKO". The groups last album was in 2004, and they've been on an official break since 2007 only now reuniting to work with Aguilera.

Also featured on her self-described "futuristic electro" album will be Tricky Stewart, Sia, Linda Perry, Claude Kelly, Goldfrapp, and Ladytron."

I would say that "Genie In A Bottle" remains actually one of the most electro-flavoured US hits of the past 15 years.

I'm looking forward to the album. The two new songs on the Keeps Gettin' Better greatest hits compilation were a good nod to what he's got coming down the pipe (per her statement when the compilation came out early this year or late last year). I love that a lot of established artists are doing great dance music again. Cyndi Lauper's Bring Ya To The Brink is awesome in that regard. I'd actually like to see Prince do that. Janet came close with Discipline. Madonna did it with Confessions On A Dance Floor. Sometimes we just need to dance!

eek excited I wonder if she'll be shooting the movie before the album release because she said she was going to do a tour also. Either way, can't wait. She always comes with something different on every new album; something that seems to be a rarity with most artists nowadays.

Well, I am going to keep an opened mind. After hearing her version of
"Porgy & Bess" I was kinda hoping for more of a jazzy style from her. I'll be checking for her new stuff, but I did not like "Keeps Getting Better" at all. confused

Cher and Christina Aguilera ... a movie match made in heaven. Photograph: AP/Hulton

She may not be set to play Catwoman, as tabloid rumours suggested last year, but Cher is to make a return to the movies, with her first starring role in more than a decade.

The Oscar-winning actor will appear opposite Christina Aguilera in the musical Burlesque, which is being set up as star vehicle for the Genie in a Bottle singer. Cher will play a former dancer, Tess, who now runs an ailing "neo-burlesque" club. Aguilera is a small-town Iowa girl with a big voice, who thrives under Tess's mentorship.

Both actors will be singing on screen, Cher for the first time in a film in which she also stars. It will be Aguilera's first star turn in front of the cameras in a movie.

"[Cher] brings a soulfulness and gravitas to this character that will ground the story," said Clint Culpepper of Screen Gems, the firm which is backing the film. "The only person who was more excited than I am is Christina."

Culpepper said he lobbied personally for the singer and actor to break off from a busy schedule of appearances in Las Vegas to take the role in Burlesque, which starts shooting in November with first time writer-director Steven Antin at the helm.

The movie will mark Cher's first on-screen role since the Farrelly brothers' comedy Stuck on You in 2003, in which she played a version of herself in a cameo. Her last role proper was in Franco Zeffirelli's 1999 wartime drama Tea with Mussolini.

Despite rumours that Christina Aguilera's fourth studio album, tentatively titled "Light & Darkness, would be released around September/October, it's now been confirmed that the album isn't due until sometime in 2010.

Aggie has also spoken out some more about the albums "futuristic sound", which is a huge departure from the jazz heavy "Back 2 Basics".

"I kind of had an idea for a futuristic feel for many years now, but I also had that idea that I wanted to do a soul, blues and jazz record also." she says "But I knew I had to do that one first ... It's always been in the back of my mind to do a more futuristic sound. But I felt like it couldn't been a better time or place for me personally also as a new mom."

The 28-year-old has so far worked with Tricky Stewart, Le Tigre, Ladytron, Linda Perry, Diplo & Switch, and Goldfrapp. Also collaborating closely with the diva on the project is Australian singer/songwriter Sia, who recently spoke out about some of the tracks the pair have worked on together.

"It's a bit of both [happy and depressing]" reveals Sia "It's kind of more ballad-y. There's one really beautiful kind of mid-tempo; I guess that's the one they're thinking might be a single. I have a couple of favorites, but my favorite is kind of like a lullaby. I don't remember what we're calling it now, but we wrote it for her son, and it's really beautiful."

"It's like classical music beautiful." she continues "And another one that's called "You Lost Me," which is very sad and awesome. It's my favorite thing to hear her sing since "Beautiful," just the way her voice is. It suits her voice so beautifully, and it's very simple in a way."

"Futuristic electro"? I am not sure about that sound, but I´ll wait and see. I have enjoyed her last two albums and I am insterested in seeing what she´s gonna come up with.

i'm guessing with rise of La Roux, Lady Gaga, Little Boots and the like the album will have a similar sound since she is working with Goldfrapp, LadyTron and Trikcy.
