I loved the glamour, the glits and the swag,,,,thats is. They lost what lil' credibility they had after they fired their stepping stone; Ms.Ballard.

Pick any girl group from Motown,,,ANYBODY, and they could bust their asses in a singing contest.

As for the 1990s girl groups, the ONLY ones I could stomach were SWV. The rest were either trying to look like Mary J or En Vouge.

Florence didn't have that crossover appeal. Regardless of how much better she looked. Not to mention, she probably didn't F Berry like Diana did.

Me either. I did like "Where My Girls At" the first few times I heard it. After 100000 times, I was hating that song.

Ugh, don't even get me started on that song! I know it was during the "comeback of Motown the label" but godly that was one of the most overrated hits in their catalog. lol

hmph! "Where My Girls At" is straight fire! I never get tired of that song. I also love "Get It Together" and "Steelo." I also dug "All I Want" with the J5 sample.

Blaque's existence is justified by "808," one of my favorite R. Kelly songs given to another artist. It's fantastic in its simplicity.

Totally disagree. The Supremes were the total package with or without
Ms.Ballard. Diana Ross was the straw that stirred the drink here.
Don't believe it. They were just another girls group without the boss.
They had a few minor hits like stone love, floy joy, and up the ladder
to the roof but none of these songs are memorable like the ones with
the boss. I like the Marvelettes and Martha & the Vandellas but once
the Supremes took off Motown knew where to invest their time and money.
The Marvelettes, Martha & the Vandellas fell like the stock market
and released a bunch of mediocre material after the Supremes reigned
Supreme
.

Well you said it.

Give any of those girls the same attention, the same materials, and you'll be singing the same tune.

I'm not talking about their material, I'm talking about their singing,,,,which again comparing to the rest of the Motown girls, ain't worth a damn.

Flo was a no-bullshit type of girl, she turned down Berry Gordy for a relationship. Reportedly they went out one night and I guess Berry took her to see some kind of woman who had a snake or something, I forget what the woman was doing on the stage but for that reason Flo thought Berry was some freak and left, lol. Flo said she never aspired to have a relationship with him though it was reported Berry was flirting with all the women on the Motown label. Only Diana gave in to his advances. Others like Martha Reeves and Mary Wells saw Berry as more of a father or brother than a boyfriend so they turned him down flat. When Diana and Berry finally started dating in 1965, it was the beginning of the end for the Supremes.

I said it, and I'll say it again.

With the right "push" from your middle men, you could get mainstream treatment.

Had it not been for Clive Davis, Whitney Houston would've been singing the chitlin' circuits by now along with Angela Winbush, Stephanie Mills, Meli'sa Morgan, Vesta, Miki Howard and the rest of her peers.

Couldn't really play too tough (but since when has that stopped anybody) and their crucifixion of The Capitols classic Cool Jerk.

Add that to Belinda Carlisle's sheep vibrato...(nails on a chalkboard) headache

I was, at one time, infatuated with their bass player...

Don't know if i'd say ignorant but my impression, based on very limited exposure (the occasional interview & snippets from her Surreal Life stint) was that she had one of those too hip for her own good vibes.

Oh trust me, it was a stretch to include them in anything music related.

I see what you mean. lol Because the mainstream definitely calls them a "group", lol. lol

I hope then you are going to include VANITY 6, APOLLONIA 6 since they were nothing but PRINCE in lingerie.

Please don't diss the queen like that. Aretha has a totally different story and wasn't part of the music machine in the beginning. Not to mention, Aretha was well known in the gospel arena thanks to her father when they did revivals.

I'm not a huge ARetha fan, but she is a legend and deserves the utmost respect.

I don't care. The queen demands respect. I guess I feel this way because I just recently re-watched the Video Soul with Donnie Simpson and Aretha and I had forgotten what a treasure she really was.
