Swa said: And here we go again... lol.
I am assuming that your argument in a nutshell is Michael can only sing now in short bursts. It doesn't mean he can't sing a note, but just that his vocal cords are so damaged he will never again be able to sing live for any extended period and even then it won't sound like it once did, particularly in more vocally demanding songs.
This sounds rational enough, and I think you would find most fans would agree in part with you. Makes me wonder what all the back and forth was for in the first place. You seemed hung up on the whole he just sings due to dancing defence, that as you'll notice from my first post was not what I was ever stating. I asserted it may have begun that way, then you informed me of what songs were mimed in the later parts of the BAD tour, and I agreed then that those songs weren't intensive dancing and thus we probably due more to strain on the vocals and/or laziness. A point you don't even address, yet claim I am dodging your point of view. I've stated repeatedly that I think the reason for the lipsynching is a mix of a decline in his voice and a need for perfection. I've seen a lot of great shows in my time and have noticed a lot of singers have their voices worn by the time it comes to the later part of the show (especially if it's a 90 minute + show). Some of my most favourite acts sound hoarse by the end of the night. It's a fact of performing. So as I have often stated when you throw a mix of Michael's decline in vocals, physical fitness due to the dance routines, potential laziness, and pressure for perfection it's perhaps understandable that in his mind he sees lipsynching as a way of giving the fans what (in his mind) they want and putting on a great show. I think it's a combination of all these factors, wouldn't you agree? And I personally take offense at being called dishonest for being right. As for knowing where TWYMMF and MITM were in the setlist, I honetsly didn't know. Like I am aware he performed Dirty Diana and Another Part of Me live during the Bad tour, but don't know if they were song 7 or song 12. I just know when he toured Australia he introduced I just can't stop loving you and Bad as the final two songs. So I made the logical assumption that the inclusion of these two songs might have been encores. Then you have a go at me for being correct? And you call me dishonest for making a correct assumption? Also I reviewed your I'll Be There clip and agree it's not a great performance. No denying that. As I mentioned for every bad clip, good to great clips will also be put forward. And as I mentioned the show I went to when he sang live it was great. Here is a clip from that show of I'll Be There for comparisson. Also, there were no live ad-libs in his "Earth Song" performances on tour
Here is a clip of Michael ad libing Earth Song from 96 that I was thinking of. No denying that when he sings he still draws you in. Anyway, I am not deliberately trying to inflame you or convince you of anything. All I have been trying to do is offer an expanded reasoning behind the lipsynching. I guess we will see where Michael's voice is at during the upcomming shows, should he realise that what excites the fans more than any song and dance number are those moments of spontaneity that comes from a true live performance. Swa [Edited 6/19/09 19:24pm] That clip was from 1996 at the very start of the History Tour. In other words before he finally blew his voice out a few months later and was forced to mime pretty much the whole rest of the tour. However, even on that show there were embarrassing moments. And let me assure you, there are much, much more awful recordings of Mike's live vocals on the History Tour than good ones. But NONE OF IT has been put on Youtube, which should give you some indication of how horrendous it was. I recommend you track it down for yourself. I actually don't know what countries they were from. I guessed Germany was one because it sounded like he spoke German in the middle, but I can't be sure. That particular show was professionally filmed though and broadcast to millions, which makes the absence of the live segments from Youtube all the more conspicuous. As for his upcoming shows, very little will be live and the vocals at the start of the run will be strongest. That's always been the trend in the past. I just wonder whether or not he'll re-record the mimed vocals to make it less obvious. He was upset because the song he had been trying to sing was in the wrong key. "The day had come for Michael to put the lead on 'Keep the Faith,' " says Swedien. "He sang the first and second verses, and then he disappeared. It was very unlike Michael. I found him standing in the corner of his office crying his eyes out. He was absolutely heartbroken, cut to the quick. "I told him, 'Michael, it's not that big a deal,' " Swedien says. " 'I'll just record it in the other key.' We'd tried two keys and, unfortunately, picked the wrong one. He was really upset. I told him, 'Michael, we've got to face this right now.' I called the synth player and programmer. I felt we had to get the right key and get Michael to face it before it turned into something ugly. [Edited 6/19/09 20:27pm] That first paragraph is sad, it's gotta be hard for singers when their voice doesn't work how they want it to anymore. For real. And it makes it easy to understand why he has lost his motivation. Can't seem to locate any news articles via the web to confirm this - wonder if BBoy has any info, Swa I can confirm that he went to a London clinic on the Dangerous tour (not the Bad tour) for suspected nodules on his vocal chords. He postponed the Istanbul concert as a result. This information is in "The Visual Documentary" by Adrian Grant, but there's nothing about what treatment he received. [Edited 6/19/09 22:26pm] I knew nothing about this story, but it confirms what I've been saying all along. Michael's vocal cords were CLEARLY in trouble on that tour, which is why he was forced to rest them by miming half the show. This was not a choice, but a NECESSITY. It had nothing to do with dancing or bad microphones. This vocal problem has never been resolved. You can hear this just by LISTENING! It's a simple equation. Mike's voice got worse. Lip synching increased. You don't have to be Einstein to figure out that these two facts are connected. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Extra Michael Jackson O2 Arena tickets made available
Registered fans can purchase tickets for the shows from tomorrow (June 24) A batch of extra tickets for Michael Jackson's sold out London O2 Arena residency are set to go on sale tomorrow (June 24). Fans who have registered on Michaeljacksonlive.com will be able to enter a lottery scheme to buy tickets - which are seated - from 8am tomorrow. Jackson is set to start his residency at the O2 Arena on July 13. A statement on behalf of the singer also revealed that the custom-made costumes he is set to wear during the gigs will be encrusted with 300,000 Swarovski crystals. Earlier this month, music promoters AllGood Entertainment filed a lawsuit against Jackson's 02 Arena residency, stating that his management had previously agreed with them that he would perform in the US ahead of the UK. http://www.nme.com/news/m...kson/45530

Of course they kept back tickets, if everything was sold out, it would mean they sold around 1 million tickets, which is not very likely. But it seems they do it for everyone, like Britney's shows in the O2 were claimed to be all sold out in February, yet on the day of the shows you could still find tickets available.

^Yep Unique, here's more on that story...
Michael Jackson tickets still available for 'sold out' O2 shows Amar Singh 23.06.09 Thousands of tickets for Michael Jackson's 50 'sold out' London shows are to go on sale tomorrow. Fans of the singer were left disappointed in March after all the tickets released for the concerts at the O2 Arena were bought up in less than week. Jackson also triggered an angry backlash when he postponed his first four shows to March 2010. But the gigs' promoters revealed today that a "limited amount" of tickets for all 50 shows will be released tomorrow at 8am. Emails went out to fans who pre-registered. A source told the Standard that there will be "hundreds of seats up for grabs for each show". The source added that each show would accommodate around “16,000 fans”. They had been held back initially amid concerns that people sat there would have an obscured view of the concert. Randy Phillips, President & CEO of AEG Live said: “we were quite conservative in holding back seats to accommodate the footprint of this massive and technologically advanced production. “Now that Michael Jackson and [show director] Kenny Ortega are very advanced in the creative process, our production team is prepared to open up those “holds” to the general public. This is a great opportunity for some lucky fans to experience entertainment history.” Jackson's lucrative comeback this Summer will include the release of his first new singles in seven years, a concert DVD and computer game. But concerns over the singer's health and an attempted lawsuit from Jackson's former promoters have left many doubting whether the 50 date residency will go ahead as planned. Promoters also revealed today that Swarovski, the designer crystal brand had prepared a new suit for the singer to perform in and have supplied more than 300,000 crystal elements for the production. The first concert at the O2 on Monday July 13 will be attended by a host of celebs. Amongst those set to attend are actresses Emma Thompson and Rachel Weisz. More Jackson tickets up for sale
More tickets for Michael Jackson's This Is It concerts at London's O2 arena are to go on sale on Wednesday. The "limited" number of extra seats - thought to be hundreds per show - had been held back as production logistics were worked out. Fans who have registered on his website will be entered into a lottery system in order to buy the tickets. The first 750,000 tickets for the 50-show run were snapped up when they went on sale in March. The pop superstar will take to the stage for his first show on 13 July - five days later than planned. Four initial shows were rescheduled last month when promoters AEG Live said the singer needed more time for dress rehearsals. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/h...115638.stm [Edited 6/23/09 15:25pm]

They hold back seats ALL the time as that's just how it works. How do you think I got front row at Prince on the day of the shows about 8 times. Not just Prince too, many a time I've logged on to ticket sites and ended up with the best seats in the house at some concert on an impromptu browse.
It's really shitty how the ticket process works now with these ridiculous VIP packages set out for the promoters to make as much money as possible. They take advantage of the mugs who will spend up to £1000 on a ticket and then they take the unsold ones back to the box office to finally open up to the public. That's also why if you go to some big arena show, more often than not the biggest party will be at the back in the crap seats - that's where all the hardcore [but not wealthy] fans are that panicked and bought what they could get on the first day. Also another great chance to play is to turn up to the box office the night of the show and ask what seats are available.
