ABOUT TIME!!!!! There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Hmm sounds more like the 40th anniversary LEGACY edition of "Stand!" featuring the Woodstock show.

agree these mugs need to get it right No disrespect to Jimi, but i'm sick of hearing how it was his show and he owned it. He most certainly did not, by the time he hit the stage, people were off home. By all accounts (that i've read) from folk that attended, Sly owned Jimi, and that's what i want to see. Sly Stone is underrated, while Jimi is overrated. Whether folk know it or not Sly Stone is/was more influential than Jimi Hendrix. There i said it. [Edited 5/24/09 3:45am]

Sorry, but who ever said Jimi "owned" Woodstock?
And why are you making comparisons between Jimi and Sly? Yes they were 2 legendary black artists from that time but were 2 TOTALLY different artists in that respect. Jimi was a reserved electric blues rock guitarist while Sly was a more flamboyant, rooted in gospel, soulful multi-instrumentalist. Sure they were both funky, but Jimi left the planet in 1970. Sly had another 10 years after him before he became a recluse. And Jimi was just tapping into the soul-funk-jazz thing before he passed so who knows what could have went down. Plus Jimi and Sly were friends so I'm sure if Jimi had lived they would have done something together. And as much as I love Sly and recognize his contribution to R&B, soul, pop and funk, most of these youngsters today have no clue who he is. And at the same time I see Jimi's image everywhere on t-shirts, jackets, tattoos (etc) on young and old, black and white, male and female, etc. Overrated? Maybe...but there was a time when he didn't get props at all. Better late than never.

I heard they fuckin' bombed. Don't bring fifties-era doo-wop to a SIXTIES ROCK CONCERT!!! As for Joan Baez? Poor thing. Ritchie Havens was among one of the first artists on there and sung folk too but he kilt it because he had something extra - SOUL! Not saying Joan doesn't have it but she was probably at the wrong place at the wrong time. Janis, Jimi, Sly, the Who and everybody else, however, rocked it! Let's not forget the muddy hippie audience. [Edited 5/24/09 10:43am]

It's cool you don't dig Jimi, but your argument unveils your lack of knowledge. I have the Jimi Woodstock CD, along with a fair bit of other stuff. I like him somewhat, but he is held in too high esteem. Just my feeling on him these days, that's all.

Jimi had no peer on guitar at that moment in time and to me still does not in in rock music. Eddie Van Halen(VH1-1984) is my guy, but no Jimi= no Eddie in my book! regardless of all of his professing his love for Clapton at the time. I hear a lot of Jimi vibe in Ed's playing. As for Sly vs Jimi at Woodstock. Yeah Sly spanked him. But there were some amazing guitar passages throughout, by Jimi. "The Star Spangled Banner" defined the Woodstock generation, with the USA at war in Vietnam. [Edited 5/25/09 3:49am] Release Yourself

Without both Jimi and Sly, I wonder where P-Funk would've existed or not, can't have one without the other.
