Lenny Kravitz: Circus Appreciation Ok....I chose to give Lenny's Circus a re-listen after 14 yrs!!!
Circus followed the huge "Are u gonna go my "which I considered when Len was comming into his own. His first two release people were trippin on his clothes and what not. When Circus first came out I was a tad bit disappointed, overall, I was expecting more following of "Are you gonna go my way". But after a re-listen....it's not that bad. Tunnel Vision in my opinion I thought should have been the single then and I still feel the same way now! Rock N Roll is dead is cool...but it had that weird video! Thin Ice still stands out also..... Funny Len said in his behind the music ep. that the album was weird....I think the inside pics were....not so much the music.

you took a 14 year leave from Circus? dude, that sucks!
As much as I appreciate what he's doing now (which I would call Keepin' It Real), circus stands among his best. fave cut: Can't Get You Off Of My Mind

Yep, for me "Circus" holds up very well as long as I start it on Track 2 (never liked "Rock and Roll is Dead"). I always thought that the relative failure of this album (coming after "Are You Gonna Go My Way" which really brought him to another level of fame) is the reason why Lenny went so unabashedly mainstream rock and pop on the next 2 releases (liked "5" quite a bit, hated "Lenny") I remember reading an interview, I think in "Rolling Stone" where he said that he had intended every song on "Circus" to have a strong, instant melody and also be like a separate song from a movie or Broadway play. I think he even recalled seeing Sam Jackson as the guy in the song "Thin Ice" I think he reached his goal, this album has some great tunes: the title track, "Tunnel Vision", "In My Life Today", "Don't Go and Put A Bullet In Your Head" (love the beatbox on that one) and "THe Resurrection"...matter of fact, the intro to that one with the fade-in guitar and Lenny's harmonized vocals is one of my favorite Kravitz moments ever. "Because when you say annihilation my friends, you've said all there is to say" - Henry Rollins

I love Lenny and enjoy most of his music. Circus is a great cd. The only cd I was truly disappointed in is Baptism. The others are very good.

I don´t know this album, but I love the song. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."
