Soul, Funk, Reggae, and Dance Music are all Brilliant. So why...

...is most African Music so crap? I just can't dig it, with it's trebley jangly happy happy unfunky tunes. That lame thin guitar sound disbelief In fact, I can only stomach it as an influence in western pop tunes - Graceland by Paul Simon, "Free Nelson Mandela" etc.

hey thats an interesting observashion ...really never thought about it. butt its interseting that most of those styles you mentioned evolved out of africa.
they really not that mcuh into bass riht ? butt the drumms are there...

ever checked out fela kuti adn his son ? they aint that thin sounding

Fela Kuti had poltical lyrics , too. and he was a player..his son didnt go out like dad.
