Like a Prayer Remaster?

Given that the album is now 20 years old and justly regarded as one of her greatest albums (if not the greatest), I'm surprised that WB hasn't decided to issue a remastered edition. I was hoping that some people who are more in the loop than I am can fill me in on whether there have been any plans to reissue it!

Way back when this song was first released, my local radio station played an extended mix that had what seemed like the exact thund beat from "Bob George" mixed in, was this just a mix by my local dj or was it part of one of the original remixes.

I have looked for it on youtube and the other usual suspects but no dice. Does any Madonnaphile know?

I was so excited when I saw that they were remastering her stuff.

Of course that means that they'd stop with True Blue... mad mad mad pissed fuse
• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

That's one of the official remixes, which you can find on the "Remixed Prayers" EP.I think that particular remix is called "Extended 12" Version".I like this remix alot. The original version is amazing, but the verses are slow.It needed that loud, thumping beat for the clubs.Gives it the dance appeal that it needed. Our local R&B radio station played this remix more than they played the original version.

It's frustrating, isn't it? Especially since 'Like A Prayer' is superior to those three albums that came before it.

So no word on a remaster? Shocking that an artist as successful as Madonna wouldn't have guaranteed sellers like Like a Prayer remastered.

No plans for a remaster confused It makes no sense.

There were rumours about this years ago.

I love Madonna but it seems like her back catalog is so mismanaged! It seems like most established artists never quite get it right. They either do nothing because they are stubborn (Prince) or go WAAAY overboard (Elvis Costello is on his fourth release of albums like "My Aim is True"). Now the Pet Shop Boys with their remastering of their first six albums really got it right. If only Madonna would do that. The 2 bonus remixes tacked onto to the remastering did very little for them, especially considering she/WB could have added "Ain't No Big Deal" to "Madonna", "Into the Groove" (finally!) to "Like A Virgin" (in the US) and maybe the "Who's That Girl" tracks to "True Blue". How great would that be.

Sade did it right. They remastered every studio record in 2000 and put it out to hype "Lovers Rock," I think. Now you can buy any of her old LPs in great sound quality - wham bam, thank you ma'am, just one shot. Eurythmics too.

Madonna and Prince's back catalogs (and Janet's too) - don't get me started - MESS
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

My copy still smells of patchouli...after 20 years...unbelievable! nod
It's my favourite "secret" Prince-associated album.
Would love a remaster with bonus-tracks etc.

I do, but am too lazy to upload or rip it off my cd.

It's one of the 4 or 3 remixes of LAP.

Isn't it the one mixed with Act Of Contrition and Prince in it?

I think PSB are the ONLY ones I have seen that have done it right. My ONLY complaint is that the fantasic books that accompany them kinda sit outside of the package. They are usually outstanding with their packaging and GH and what not.

Yeah the Madonna ones are pretty slim when it comes to extra material. And to stop at True Blue is really perplexing.

Depeche Mode rolleyes What a bonus DVD with the videos and a mini movie and a few remixes?

MJ - The worst of the worst! What is up with all of the interview and talking and just BS! Put that shit on another disc!

Eurythmics...Not the greatest, but not the worst. I like the packaging, but I strongly feel that bonus material should be put on a second disk. But I do like the write up and the bonus pictures.

The Cure also did it right. Some bonus discs have demos, some have B-sides and some have live stuff. I like the mix of it all. The packaging is also very nice. I am now awaiting Disintegration!

And of course there the queen of re-releases...Bjork. How many times can you update a package? That woman bleeds her peeps dry and they LOVE IT!

I have to say though...I loathe the remasters that tack on the "bonus" tracks to the end of the disc. Put that shit on a separate disc, man.

hmmm Are you implying that it wouldn't be cool to remaster 'Like A Prayer'---a landmark 80s album that is generally considered Madonna's best work?

I have no problems with bonus tracks at the end of the disc, just as long as they're good bonus tracks.

lol I love extra tracks, but I feel the exact same way - as a rule, I want new tracks on a separate disc to preserve the "feel" of the original album.

Exactly. I don't care if the bonus tracks are on a separate disc (unless there are substantial things left off because of it)- just gimme the remaster! drool

This is one thing that frustrates me about Madonna and Prince. These two are always living "in the now" and they don't seem to care about their old recordings. They only care about the new music that they release. They don't seem interested in reflecting on the amazing stuff they released many years ago.I really think that Warners wants to remaster these albums, but both of them are holding out and not giving their support/approval.I heard that Warners has been trying to release a Madonna box set for years, but she won't cooperate.

Precisely. Man, those live tracks just killed Bat Out Of Hell. Assuming, of course, you're one of the old fogies that actually listens to CDs...
