I love Trent Reznor i think he's genius he just really needs to write some more cheerful lyrics. It just gets to be old and annoying...

If you like NIN try 'Throbbing Gristle' - they inspired them and created the industrial sound.

TG and NIN really have hardly anything in common. Nine Inch Nails was more inspired by the WaxTrax bands and the ones associated with that sound (Ministry, Skuppy, Klinik, DAF etc.), which already in itself marks a 10 to 15-year-progrssion from TG, and hardly anyone would regard Nine Inch Nails as an "industrial band" anymore (it's been a source for heated "debate" on the net for the last, uhm, 15 years). Lately NIN seems to have been more inspired by garbage like Tool than anything resembling industrial music. Shame, cause I always thought Trent was quite talented in adding industrial sound-influenced textures for his songs (TDS being the best example). I doubt most NIN fans would be really into TG, though - I guess they can pretend to like it, or something. Perhaps trying Coil instead would make a bit more sense.
By the waym TG neither really "created the industrial sound". It was already "created" by the likes of Boyd Rice (/NON), but yeah TG was where it started to take shape around a specific record label and a couple of more high-profile individuals. Plus, you've gotta love the fact that the frontman of the band - Gensis P'Orridge - often called "the father of industrial" is now a man with tits. guy who ripped off skinny puppy. who then produce an artist who ripped of rozz williams, david bowie, alice cooper.
pretty hate machine was his best album. he has a rather bod at the moment(i've heard) i have to agree with nova. tg and nin sound nothing alike. throbbing gristle to music is interesting but not something i tend to dwell on alot.

I love me some 'throbbing Gristle.' Seeing them live in London in June. Have you tried their latest album? It is slightly more mellow.
