I think the second half was much better.

yeah I agree

Yup, me too. Maybe we were all in shock from 9/11 or something, but it all got better in the 2nd half.

could be both. lol

seriously, it's hard for me to find anything exciting now days. i've been a listener for so long that it's rare for anything new music to come along and blow me away like it did in my teens and early 20's.

i'm actually diggin' on classical music at the moment. i just find it more engaging and stimulating.

nod I can totally relate. Although, nowdays I'm more into new age music.

Yeah, music has gone downhill this decade. The internet has changed the industry, of course. Most of the hits have been whack. So look 4 GOOD music elsewhere. neutral

compared to 70s 80s and 90s this decade has blown.

esp in terms of NEW artists that have debuted this decade and hit MASSIVE success...

I guess Kanye is the star to beat this decade. He's just ALRIGHT to me - not fanfuckingtastic or anything. ALL the artists who have emerged this decade who have been HUGE that are either 'ok' or god awful to me...

Rihanna
Nickelback
Justin Timberlake (as a solo artist)
Kelly Clarkson
Norah Jones
The Killers
Beyonce (as a solo artist)
The Jonas Brothers
Pink
Taylor Swift
Miley Cyrus
Lil Wayne
Lil Jon
T-Pain

I only bolded Pink because she is GREAT. Just stellar. Didn't buy her last two albums, as I'm more and R&B fan than pop/rock but her vocals, her packaging and her artistry are ON POINT. That's why she's so big internationally and STILL packs number 1 hits in the US.

All the others...for real, Beyonce - take it or leave it. Ditto Rihanna, T-Pain...can't STAND Kelly or Justin...i dunno. If you look at the biggest superstar acts that have come out since 2000...it really sucks compared to Michael, Madonna, Tina, Aretha, Diana, Prince, EWF, Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Janet, Salt N Pepa, Run DMC, TLC, Cyndi Lauper, Tori Amos, Alanis, Dire Straits, Eurythmics, Sade, hell even U2.... etc. These artists above have no great songs or significant bodies of work!

You kind of hit the nail on the head. We cant forget all the bad artists that came out in that era too....the new artists are just not as good or musically inclined as the past ones unfortunatley.

Like someone said earlier the last half have indeed been much better with likes of people like Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Raphael Saddiq new album, Kanye...even people on the internet....I think this decade will be more about people FINDING good music more than hearing it on the mainstream. I think the past couple of years even for the last Prince albums have all been better than his 90's output with the exception of Gold Experience and a couple of other nice jams.

Music may be going on the uphill in my opinion with all the 80's falir coming back in full....everybody is starting to use synths again in r&b tracks.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.
