What songs are sacred to you? Which songs are sacred to you - i.e., they should only be sung as they were originally sung? I have several (and this is all IMO):
Most recently: Mad Word by Tears For Fears - Adam Lambert's cover of it is SUCH a buzzkill - the song to me is meant to sound brooding but not depressed. Before that: Nesson Dorma, as sung by Luciano Pavarotti, which was BUTCHERED by Aretha Franklin in the mid-90s. She gets no more love from me for this dumb stunt. Take My Breath Away - a song meant as a tribute to one of the new band member's brothers, who died from complications due to AIDS (this is what she said when she performed it at San Diego GLBT Pride in 2001), Jessica Simpson's version is just oversung to death. Some Christmas songs: O Holy Night - not a good song sung in gospel style Do You Hear What I Hear - see above reason (There are more, but this is all I can think of right now) Marginally, Whitney's Version of I Will Always Love You misses the mark, because when I listen to Dolly Parton's version, I always remember the simplicity with which I think the song was meant to be sung? ----- Your sacred songs?

For me it's Credence Clearwater Revival's - Have you ever seen the rain. This is a song that has very special meaning to me and if some else were to sing it wrong, I would go ape shit. I agree with you when it comes to "I Will Always love you". I think Whitney butchered this song. It was written as response to a break up. I don't know about you, but if someone is breaking up with me, the last thing I would want is for her to be screaming this sentiment at me. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"
