Charlie Wilson

Whether recording a new album, wrangling with a record company, battling cancer, or chilling in a combat zone, soul singer Charlie Wilson is obviously a man who enjoys a good fight.

“I’m not new to this, I’m true to this,” he says with a laugh. One of the most familiar voices in soul music, the Tulsa, Oklahoma native once sang lead with his blood brothers The GAP Band on R&B classics “Yearning for Your Love” and “Party Train” as well as the #1 pop hits “Outstanding” and “You Dropped A Bomb On Me” before opting to go solo.

While Wilson’s voice defined a generation of R&B 1970s/ 1980s performers from the Soul Train era, he also influenced the next generation of artists including Aaron Hall and R. Kelly.

Glad to see him still out there. Wish they had more time to get into his influences. As much as R.Kelly and Aaron Hall were influenced by Charlie, he was influenced by Stevie Wonder. I swore it was Stevie on Zapp's "Computer Love", till I read the album credits lol
