I call it modern day Shitney Houston type music.....an entire genre of artists that don't have even one damn fast jam on the album and the slow songs aren't really sexy bedroom type ballads eithter....they're just more "mellow" type songs to just "sit and listen to", nothing to really dance or fuck to....kinda of a genre for the snobby elite, not the folks that wanna get down and party. It's reminds me of a whole genre that came from the horrible late 80s era of Shitney Houston, Anita Baker, Freddie Jackson, Regina Belle, Mikki Howard....ohhhhh, make it stop dammitt!
This song is pretty danceable: It's got will.i.am in it. I was gonna buy that album until I find out he was on it. Plus that song fits Andy's description of Shitney Houston music.

Unfortunately, he is, but I just turned the volume down when he comes on. The rest of the album is great. Love her ballads like "If I Have My Way", "Love Is You", and especially "Golden", which is absolutely beautiful. It's a good album, give it a listen...rent it from the library, that's what I do so that I don't end up buying crappy albums. Prince Rogers Nelson

I admit I like "Best of Me", lol. Her best song is "Is This the Way Love Feels", they were seriously trying to channel P on that one

vainandy you should consider trademarking "Shitney Houston" and "shithop".
You make a good point. My father was convinced that "Cool Jazz" all but destroyed Jazz music. He said, jazz was dance music. "We didn't go to club to set on our asses to listen to music we went to dance. Why fast jams/uptempo music have all but dissppeared from Soul/R&B, is a mystery. I'm not sure if it's a combination of the death of the live music venues and the ever shrinking club scene or what. Have we Black folks lost our rythme? I've observered twenty years ago a lot of Black's have stopped dancing and instead stand up against the wall. I guess they come to see and, more importantly, to be seen. [Edited 4/30/09 10:26am]

Sorry to bring this old thread back Back to the question No! Because like Punk, I think it's more of a image then a genre.

Mara said: No, I don't like Neo-Soul. I think it's boring as fuck to be honest. No hate to anybody who likes it. I'm JUST sayin'. I think it's mad dull just like vainandy when he talks about hearing some hip hop.
Neo-Soul, for my ears, doesn't go any fuckin where. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!
