Brad Mehldau On at least one other thread, I've heard some heads showing respect to Brad Mehldau's Largo. Brad, to me, is one of the baddest pianists on the jazz scene.
I first heard him on a public radio program in Norfolk, Va., that featured his trio's cover of the Radiohead(!) song "Exit Music for a Film." The same station also hipped me to his cover of a Thelonious Monk song. I saw him at Wolf Trap in Northern Virginia, last year. The man, when he wasn't holding back (and I was ticked that he was doing so), killed it. Anyone else a fan of his? Anyone? Bueller?

Are you thinking of his cover of "Paranoid Android"? That's the one on Largo.
I have the album. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I love Mehldau and his approach to music. His Art Of Trio albums are great too. He definitely has vision and is very eclectic and loves to try a variety of things{this frustrates critics to a degree who want to box him in}. He's one of the young lions to look out for. I've heard Largo and love this record as well, I'll get it sometimes this month. It's one of the year's best records. Another jazz pianist that has a lot of promise is Jason Moran
He just put out a new solo piano recording called Modernistic. His album last year Black Stars was superb with sax man Sam Rivers. It was one of the best jazz releases of 2001.
