More prolific artists/bands than Prince? Prince's output is legendary but name some other acts that you know that release even more music than him.
Without a shadow of a doubt the most prolific act I can think of are The Fall. A Manchester band fronted by the irascable Mark E. Smith who have released 96 (yes that's NINETY SIX) albums throughout their career. Album 97 is due for release as we speak 
They began their careers in the late 1970s during the punk age. Famous for being John Peel's favourite ever band. Fucking legends 
They make Prince look as prolific as Michael Jackson

The band Stereolab is pretty prolific. They put out an average of an album a year, plus miscellaneous vinyl single releases, tour e.p.s, rarities collections, etc.
Sonic Youth also puts out an average of an album a year on a major label, then they have their own label where they release their more experimental stuff. Don't even get me started on The Residents.  | |

James Brown easily. He isn't called "The Hardest Working Man In Show business" for no reason. He put out tn albums a.lne in '68 I think. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Yeah, I remember some record store in NYC had about 50+ different Frank Zappa albums.
I believe Tupac was also extremely prolific, but unfortunately his life was cut short. Had he reached Prince's age he'd probably have just as many albums or more... | |

I'm quite the Zappa fan but like Prince his music sometimes suffers by being too much quantity over quality at times.
Coincidentally Frank Zappa was a huge influence on The Fall as well as Prince. On the anouncement of his death The Fall covered one of his tracks live on a BBC music show. You can hear echoes of Zappa's 'Peaches en Regalia' in a lot of Prince's work, especially on the ATWIAD and Parade albums. Did you know that Zappa was a big fan of the Purple Rain album? There's a reggae artist called Luciano who makes an effort to release at least three albums a year.
So far he's released over 40 albums. Check out the song "Sweet Jamaica" off his latest album "Jah Is My Navigator." Also check out his site www.lucianoreggae.com | |

Even though i'm not a huge fan Neil Young is pretty darn prolific and in many ways reminds me of Prince. A huge back catalog, no editing and quality control and rabid fans who devour anything he puts out. | |

Btw, Bootsy was only with James Brown for a little over one year. After he left, Brown did performances like these - hardly a sign that he lost it. 
Ane he probably lost it when he produced the two outstanding Lyn Collins albums.

You pretty much ignore the first eight years of Brown's career, when he was an R&B / Soul artist. Brown was a great Soul singer, and he recorded some Blues and Jazz as well. Also, keep in mind that Brown invented Funk. What musical genre did Prince create or at least help to engineer? None. I'm not trying to downplay Prince's legacy. I used to be a fan back in the day. Just like Stevie Wonder, Prince had a creative period that lasted about eight years, in which he put out incredibly inspiring and innovative music. After that, he was little more than a regular recording artist (even though his live performances remain strong to this day). Granted, Prince has released a huge amount of music as well, but much of it isn't that good and rather filler material (I'm talking about post '88 material). I know that this isn't a popular opinion among his fans, but that's how I feel. Brown's creative period lasted from about 1962 until 1975. That's a run of 13 years, and this can't be beat. But I give you one thing. Prince is the better musician. And he's more of an allrounder, who explored lots of different styles of music. But versatility doesn't always stand for higher quality.
