Its good to see Purple Rain is up over 20 mil, last I heard it was languishing around 19 million, to have it at 21.4 means it sold about 8 million overseas, including at least a million in the UK and Germany (Incredibly a huge market). Michaels figures are astounding, even if we assume that Thriller sold only 62 million copies, if you take that and the other albums (History must be in the region of 8-10 million) and add in all his singles, hes easily over a quarter of a Billion records there!!!!!, including all the greatest hits releases and Motown cash ins, the name Michael Jackson must be on 200,000,000 albums!!!!
Whitney did well too, did anyone see that the Bodyguard, Whitney and Whitney Houston are close to 100,000,000 albums between them. Wow she was a really huge star at on epoint. Madonna has probably sold that figure too. Overall Prince has moved at least 75,000,000 albums So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Interesting: One of the names that kinda surprised me was Phil Collins -being on the list a couple of times. Who would've guessed? I think I may have his Hits CD by default, Columbia Club. I do remember buying his first solo album.... "Hello I Must Be Going". [Edited 4/15/09 6:57am]

What struck me about this list is that there are no country or rap artists listed. I guess the rest of the world is not as enthusiastic about these musical genres as Americans. Prince believes he is a musical prophet that has been chosen by Jehova to guide his fans to the "truth".

Country has never produced big sales worldwide, neither has hip-hop, they're mainly U.S. sales monsters. POP/ROCK music has ALWAYS sold overseas. Always has, always will.

Wait, I did see Kelly Clarkson but she's only 1 country artist listed and she's at the bottom. Kelly Clarkson is a pop singer, lol. She's not country at all. You're getting her mixed up with Carrie Underwood.

Unless you can provide a link directly to Billboard I have to assume that some one other than Billboard typed that up and it's nothing more than guesswork and quoting other articles... as no one really has worldwide sales numbers other than record companies! Did you see my post with the link from where it came from? http://fanofmusic.free.fr/BestSellersWorldActs
I wonder where that site-owner gets those inside numbers from, lol. He/she could have an account at soundscan or another info-site of that sort, but where are the other 167 releases on that list ? I see too much differences. On that site some numbers are already much higher than on the Billboard-list. [Edited 4/16/09 4:04am]

It's a shame that "desgin of a decade" is not on the list. I thought it would have sold at least 10 million by now - but i guess it only hits from only 2 albums that are already on the list.
Anyone know how much it has sold worldwide?
