More prolific artists/bands than Prince?

Prince's output is legendary but name some other acts that you know that release even more music than him.

Without a shadow of a doubt the most prolific act I can think of are The Fall.

A Manchester band fronted by the irascable Mark E. Smith who have released 96 (yes that's NINETY SIX) albums throughout their career.
Album 97 is due for release as we speak biggrin

They began their careers in the late 1970s during the punk age.
Famous for being John Peel's favourite ever band.
Fucking legends cool

They make Prince look as prolific as Michael Jackson lol

Your Choice(s)??

The band Stereolab is pretty prolific. They put out an average of an album a year, plus miscellaneous vinyl single releases, tour e.p.s, rarities collections, etc.

Sonic Youth also puts out an average of an album a year on a major label, then they have their own label where they release their more experimental stuff.

Don't even get me started on The Residents. nuts

PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever

lots and lots and lots.

counting his "beat the boots" and "guitar" live album series, it's difficult to count how many albums he released.

heck, his family is still releasing new FZ albums from recordings in his vault.

Yeah, I remember some record store in NYC had about 50+ different Frank Zappa albums.

I believe Tupac was also extremely prolific, but unfortunately his life was cut short. Had he reached Prince's age he'd probably have just as many albums or more...

I'm quite the Zappa fan but like Prince his music sometimes suffers by being too much quantity over quality at times.

Coincidentally Frank Zappa was a huge influence on The Fall as well as Prince.

On the anouncement of his death The Fall covered one of his tracks live on a BBC music show.

You can hear echoes of Zappa's 'Peaches en Regalia' in a lot of Prince's work, especially on the ATWIAD and Parade albums.

Did you know that Zappa was a big fan of the Purple Rain album?

Then again who isn't razz

There's a reggae artist called Luciano who makes an effort to release at least three albums a year.

So far he's released over 40 albums.

Check out the song "Sweet Jamaica" off his latest album "Jah Is My Navigator."

Also check out his site www.lucianoreggae.com

well they both got PMRCd

The formation of the PMRC began in 1984 after Tipper Gore, along with her daughter Karenna, heard Prince's song "Darling Nikki." This track, which appears on the soundtrack to the film Purple Rain, contains references to sex and masturbation ("I knew a girl named Nikki/I guess you could say she was a sex fiend/I met her in a hotel lobby/Masturbating with a magazine").

and Frank took it up:

I never heard what Prince had to say about it all hmmm did he even care?

And Zappa still makes Prince's guitar playing look as useless than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.

Prince is #1 for me.

Does James have more releases than Prince? Not counting live and singles? Plus I think James lost it after Bootsy left the group.

Even though i'm not a huge fan Neil Young is pretty darn prolific and in many ways reminds me of Prince. A huge back catalog, no editing and quality control and rabid fans who devour anything he puts out.

Of course Brown has more releases, even with the live albums taken out. About 130 singles and about 70 albums (live albums not included).

Brown lost if after Bootsy left? I can't believe anyone would make such an assertion. Brown released some incredible music after Bootsy left. Doin' it to death, Watergate, Slaughter Theme, Payback, Papa don't take no mess, Funky President .. about 15 albums (including the J.B.'s albums) full of music before he got less interesting. Id take these albums anytime over anything Prince released after Sign 'O' The Times.

Btw, Bootsy was only with James Brown for a little over one year.

After he left, Brown did performances like these - hardly a sign that he lost it. rolleyes

Ane he probably lost it when he produced the two outstanding Lyn Collins albums. lol

Some of the ground breaking tracks James Brown recorded after he lost it. smile

I'm a greedy Man
King Heroin
Slaughter Theme
There it is
Get on the Goodfoot
I got a bag of my own
Public Enemy # 1
I got ants in my pants
Down and out in New York City
The Boss
Think
Stone to th Bone
The Payback
My Thang
Mindpower
Papa don't take no mess
I can't stand it '76
Cold Blooded
Funky President
Reality
Sex Machine '75

and by the J.B.s

You can have Watergate
Doin' it to Death
More Peas
Blow your head
Same Beat
Damn Right I am Somebody
Breakin Bread
Rockin' Funky Watergate

and many more ... not to forget the countless productions for Bobby Byrd, Lyn Collins, Maceo Paker, Sweet Charles Sherrell and many other artists during the early to mid-1970s ... I rest my case. falloff

Once again, you're wrong. smile You pretty much ignore the first eight years of Brown's career, when he was an R&B / Soul artist. Brown was a great Soul singer, and he recorded some Blues and Jazz as well. There was a James Brown before Funk.

Also, keep in mind that Brown invented Funk. What musical genre did Prince create or at least help to engineer? None.

I'm not trying to downplay Prince's legacy. I used to be a fan back in the day. Just like Stevie Wonder, Prince had a creative period that lasted about eight years, in which he put out incredibly inspiring and innovative music. After that, he was little more than a regular recording artist (even though his live performances remain strong to this day). Granted, Prince has released a huge amount of music as well, but much of it isn't that good and rather filler material (I'm talking about post '88 material). I know that this isn't a popular opinion among his fans, but that's how I feel.

Brown's creative period lasted from about 1962 until 1975. That's a run of 13 years, and this can't be beat.

But I give you one thing. Prince is the better musician. And he's more of an allrounder, who explored lots of different styles of music. But versatility doesn't always stand for higher quality. smile

I know that your pride would be in the way of admitting that. biggrin But the fact that you said earlier that James Brown lost it after Bootsy left is a very obvious sign that you lack understanding when it comes to James Brown. And the fact that you limited Brown to just one style of music.
