The only 2009 albums I've heard so far are:

Lily Allen - It's Not Me, It's You
Neko Case - Middle Cyclone
Late Of The Pier - Fantasy Black Channel
Prince - Lotusflow3r
Prince - Mplsound

Of those, Neko Case is the best easily.

However, the album I've played the most this year is the Ladyhawke disc from 2008. I shouldn't have waited so long to pick it up.

woot!

That album is a sleeper. She should be much bigger than she is!

As far as this year's albums..

Really loving this! It's better than Dance Hall at Louse Point. There's more variety and a wider range of emotional performances. Plus, the music's pretty kick-ass!

"A Woman a Man Walked By/The Crow Knows Where All the Little Children Go" nutty

I loved their 2008 album Skeleton. This only builds upon that record. Their Stevie Nicks cover ain't half bad, either. smile

"Don't Lie" + "The Reaper" headbang

Deadpan, diffident vocals atop beyond dreamy synths and heavily percussive drum tracks. Imagine two tomboys making their version of modern pop with a little 4AD thrown in for good measure.

"In Your Line" & "Can't Stand It"love2

Songs..

Animal Collective "My Girls"
Black Church "Clara"
Grizzly Bear "Cheerleader"
Kelly Clarkson "Whyyawannabringmedown"
Fever Ray "When I Grow Up"
Marissa Nadler "Mary Come Alive"

I do, but it hasn't found its way into my disc player yet. Same goes for PJ/John Parish. I'm slow.

Fantastic. The album would have easily made my top 10 of 2008 if I had gotten it last year.

And I got to see Ladyhawke live a few weeks ago too. The crowd was nuts. She said we were by far the most energetic crowd she's ever played to in the states. Imagine that, a blasé hipster crowd was energetic! lol Pics: http://www.brooklynvegan....heart.html

Yeah, out of the new ones I like this the most.

But I discovered so many old albums this year, they are new to me!!

Relatively current is Sam Sparro's album, I like it.

U2 - No Line on the Horizon
Handsome Furs - Face Control

there's a lot of music i have piled up but haven't got to yet including neko case and the new pj harvey so they may make it to the (short) list as well. the two records listed, though, have pretty much been nonstop on my jPod, stereo, and office computer...

Bat for Lashes- Two Suns: Fur and Gold was an alluring debut, to be sure, but it didn't make me a megafan or anything. However, this new album announces her as the heir apparent to the likes of Björk, Tori Amos and Kate Bush. Her beautiful vocals and musical chops (I was amazed by how many instruments she plays as listed in the credits) fuse these 11 beautiful songs with a sacred aura, and I'm lapping it up.

I listened to this finally last night. I like it more than Fur and Gold. It's a close second behind Neko Case for my fave album of 2009 so far.

Definetely not anything by Prince. 'Fever Ray' by the artist of the same is a very unusual yet interesting album. It's by the singer from The Knife, Karin Dreijer Andersson. There's hints of Vangelis and African beats in the mix and is all together very good indeed.
