Prince recorded this with lit candles in the booth and the original song reflects that. This had 2 much water and not enough drama 4 my taste,

See, now, I didn't become a Prince fan until I was in college, so I actually hadn't heard Prince's version (the original, I know) until much later... redface
I had always loved this song, and was shocked when I heard Prince sing it! shocked

Although I love Prince's version, I still have a special place for this one... music

I'm not exactly sure what she's doing, but she did release an album in 05. You can get the info here.

I know that she was once married to Shelley Garrett, a big writer on the African American play circuit, but I think they got a divorce in the late 90s. I heard she took him to the bank and got a pretty nice settlement.

Meli'sa is still touring. Her last album "I Remember" is one of the best CDs I've heard so far this decade. Some incredibly strong material and she sounded flawless! It really sucks that it was so overlooked here in the states. Guess she's no match for the Beyonces and Rhianna's of the world. eek

I don't think she should try to match Beyonce or Rihanna, but she definitely deserved a little more credit. Urban AC radio should have played more from this album. They didn't even give it a chance (like they don't do for most albums). I don't consider myself a big fan of Meli'sa, but she still sounds and looks good.

I always say that the singers now don't hold a candle to Meli'sa Morgan and Cheryl Lynn. wink

To be honest, I didn't start buying Prince's collection till around 87, so I didn't know this was his until I heard his version on KISS F?M's New York After Dark. I loved Meli'sa's version but my favorite song from that killer album was "Do You Still Love Me?"

I love her version of this song. I heard it and loved it first before I knew that Prince had written and recorded it. When I found out it was a Prince song I was like eek . It's a great song period and she put her stamp on it for sure. nod music
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Just gonna tack this one on here rather than starting a new thread. That dreadful Ciara thread made me pull this one out.

Heart Breaking Decision, one of her best! Love this one. Mary J. sampled it if I'm not mistaken.
