She's better than anything that whack-ass show spins off as "artistry". She's not the best live performer, but she's got chutzpah and at least is involved in her own material.

I love her album! She's a songwriter who writes for some of the biggest performers on the radio (Britney, Pussycat Dolls, etc.) I've never heard her live, but she sounds great on the album, and like the poster above said: she writes and works on her own music.

Plus, her attitude is positively alluring! She puts her sexuality out there and makes no apologies for it (similar to a younger version of a certain purple artist we all know and love).

I was impressed that she could play the piano, and her voice is passable. But after that, she didn't do much for me.

She's raw. She's interesting . Shes damn good.

I mean .. aluminum blouces, bubble filled pianos and eye zippers . Topped off with a piano leading into a wild ass performance of Poker Face.

Shes the hottest most interesting thing to come on the music scence in at least 20 years.

dare i say it ..on stage she reminds me of a female fucked up version of Prince

I'm sorry, but she was terrible. As I was watching this, I kept saying..."Is this what all the fuss is all about?" I thought I was watching an exercise video. Okay, so she writes for "some of the biggest names in music", doesn't mean much. The stuff that she has written for them, wasn't all that great either.

considering she has done probably more live performances than any other artist out there, an off night is to be expected.

don't forget, she does gigs almost every week!

She's way too tiny to be a dancer, IMHO.

Totally agree! nod Although I'll admit that vocally she was a bit weak in a few spots...I think because she was getting winded from the dancing and having to sing live all at once...but hey she did sing LIVE which in today's musical climate, is now considered quite a feat eek confused Definitely an over-the-top performance---people either loved it or hated it--but they cant stop talking about it! biggrin

I had never heard of her until the "Idol" performance. She was awful!!!! And she's at the top of the Billboard charts??? This just proves what this music industry has been reduced to.

Oh. My. Gawd.

I can't believe some people LIKE this chick! disbelief I really wanted to see her perform, too. I don't listen to the radio AT ALL, but saw her mentioned on Dr. Funkenberry and a few other places. So I thought: Hey, she's popular, maybe she's a kick-ass artist? hmmm

I was not prepared for what I witnessed. Are people deaf??? We must be in the Twilight Zone if this is topping the charts! Holy crap...and I thought Kanye West's performace was the worst I'd ever seen! Lady DooDoo made Kanye look like...well, Prince!

I hate Fruity GaGa almost as much as Bart, Wall and Supa hate Prince! (Well, not that much...lol)

The quality of "popular" music is tanking at an alarming rate...the way it's going, in five years, the only thing on the airwaves will be 15-minute-long trance and house instrumentals, and stupid (not clever) hip-hop tunes that all have "B*itch" or "Ho" in the title... rolleyes

Well, if her live performance is the only thing you have ever seen her do, then you have no idea what 99% of the people who do like her have heard. She and her music sound fantastic in the studio, and since she is mostly heard on the radio and in clubs, most people feel she is fantastic.

Pssssst: The 90's ended almost 10 years ago. Gangsta rap isn't played on the radio anymore. At the begining of the century, it was crunk music (just abrasive sounding dance rap), and now it's love-rap songs. Most radio music these days is R&B or club music.

People really must be desperate for some talent! I mean DAMN this bitch sucks ass! Can people really be that sheep like and listen to this shit she calls music? mad

She reminds me of these rich kids at my school that make up the whole hipster electro scene. Trying to live bohemian meth fueled lifestyle (Mary Kate and Ashely?) and trying to be "unique". bored2

She struggled a bit with the vox when she started dancing...perhaps a case of bad monitoring or maybe just an off night.

But....I'ma have to bust this out again. After seeing this clip I agreed she had chops, probably more than just about anyone on the radio at the mo (not that there's currently a hell of a lot of quality talent there, but anyways....).
She's a compelling performer I'd like to check her out more just her and her piano. She's capable of a bit of magic when performing like that eek

Not surprising, really. She's allowed an off night considering she's on tour right now and does every single show completely live. I've actually never seen her lip.

I'll admit that the Idol performace is the first I've seen and heard of her. I haven't listened to the radio regularly in 14-odd years, because I feel the majority of popular music since then has been crap. I will give the studio version of "Poker Face" a listen out of fairness, but c'mon...isn't the point of a live performance to inspire the viewer to buy the artist's album(s)? Her performance did the EXACT OPPOSITE for me.

I wasn't referring to gangsta rap in particular...just to mindless hip-hop with no lyrical cleverness or substance, regardless of subgenre.

This version is MUCH more listenable than the Idol performance, but it still isn't good enough to make me seek her or her albums out. Vocally, she sounds like a lesser Corinne Bailey Rae. JMO, of course.

Ahhh-- well then you will be pleased to know that the "b*ch, n*gg*, ho" lyrics have disappeared from the radio. Even Eminem's new song failed to make an impact. The new hot rap track is Solja Boy's Kiss Me Through the Phone, where he raps about being too busy with work to spend time with his girl, but wants her to "kiss me through the phone".
