http://www.youtube.com/wa...Lmm0u52k2c lol it's actually a cool song, but probably meant to be a joke.Who knows if Marvin would have really released it if he had lived?

I bet that,if Marvin had lived,he would have worked with Rick James on a project.Imagine if Rick had produced a Marvin Gaye album! It would have been a funky, freaky collaboration with some hot jams.

Apparently, it was just a song he did that was meant to shock folks, and he had no intention of actually putting it out.

Gordon Banks, his musical director and collaborator, commented that it was just a fun record to do. I think they both wrote this, they also co-wrote "Sanctified (Pussy) Lady". lol

I heard that, when the album was being put together, they removed the word "pussy" from the song and brought in a relative of Marvin's to sing the word "lady".Thus, the song became "Sanctified Lady" lol

Imo,posthumous albums are always a mixed bag. Many times,it's just a collection of songs that don't fit together on the same album. You never know if the artist truly wanted certain songs to be released.

Wrong....on so many levels. disbelief

Was it was his brother Frankie who sang the word "Lady"?

Cuz he sounded JUST like Marvin.

I haven't listened to the unreleased 'Love Man' album yet.To those of you who have heard it,how is it? Do you think Marvin did the right thing by cancelling its release in 1979? How do you think it would have been accepted by fans back then? I can't wait to listen to it.

hmmm I found this album on some guy's blog about a month ago.

Never downloaded it though.

I think I might do it some time this month....it's either that or fork out fifty bucks for the remastered edition of "In Our Lifetime."

It has some good songs on there. My favorites are, besides the obvious single, "Rockin' After Midnight", "'Til Tomorrow", "Joy" and "My Love is Waiting".

"My Love Is Waiting" and "Til Tomorrow" are sheer genius.

I got the album with the "Love Man" tracks on it, the tracks are actually probably what you would consider a rough draft of what became "In Our Lifetime" musical wise:

"Life's a Game of Give and Take" - "Heavy Love Affair"
"Life Is Now in Session" - "Life is For Learning"
"I Offer You Nothing But Love" - "In Our Lifetime"
"Just Because You're So Pretty" - "Love Me Now or Love Me Later"
"Dance 'N' Be Happy" - "Love Party"
"Funk Me, Funk Me, Funk Me" - "Funk Me"
"A Lover's Plea" - "Praise"

For real. And the different mix of IOL on the expanded edition was very artistic, it reminded me a LITTLE of what happened with the Detroit mix of "What's Going On".

It's a trip how Marvin cancelled the 'Love Man' album, even though the album cover artwork was completed and a first single was released ("Ego Trippin Out").In the fall of '79,fans must have been confused when they heard that song on the radio but didn't see the album's release.I guess it's sorta like what we went through with Prince's 'Black Album' in 1987 (even though no single was released from that).

Can you explain how word got out about the black album? I always thought Prince wanted people to find it, no promotion, nothing

people were expecting it?

Yep. It was shipped to stores and distributors. Then ordered back a few days before the official release. All copies weren't returned and that's how we go all of the bootlegs.

I totally agree. I need to dust those off and listen to them again. Haven't played the reissues in a while.

I think Motown just got very impatient lol Back in those days, record companies expected a new album every year.Marvin's last album 'Here,My Dear' had been released in 1978 so by 1980,they just couldn't wait any longer, lol. It seems like they finally said "screw it",completed the album themselves and rushed it to stores in January 1981.

You should hear Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson tell their stories of when they were working at Motown. It was definitely a machine in the 70s and 80s. By the mid-80s, the pace had changed and you were getting albums every 2 or 3 years, but before they kept ur ass in the studio. Berry wanted his money.

Oh yeah nod Berry was extremely anxious for Stevie to finish 'SITKOL' but Stevie took his time.At one point in 1975,Motown even distributed some T-shirts that said "We're Almost Finished" lol I bet Berry was was losing his mind, lol.

Berry even talked about that in his book. He wanted Stevie to hurry with that album because he had just given him that HUGE record deal for like 3mil. HE wanted a return on his investment...fast! lol
