Bat for Lashes- Daniel

Wow, wow, wow! I bought and quite liked Fur and Gold a few years ago, and I recently heard that another album was due soon. I checked out the video for the first single and was blown away.

This is the kind of enduring and magical song that would have been a classic in the 80s. Its impact lingers much longer than the duration of the song, and it's deceptively catchy. After listening to it twice, it was in my head all night! For some reason it reminds me a bit of Kate Bush.

Behold the fantastic "Daniel"!

lol
At first it sounds like a cover of kate's cover of Elton John

But then, the sound and the clip choreography are obviously "suggested" by running up that hill.

That said, loved it at first hearing smile

hasn't the album been officially released yet? redface lol

i've had a copy for about a month now and it's very cool.
although, i must say, it's not as experimental or weird
as her debut.

all the songs are good and there's really nothing to be
negative about but it's still less magic than the first
one.

the songs are a bit slower and a bit less melodic for the
best part of the album.

still, it's been on heavy rotation and i do love it nod

It's out April 6th spank !!

I'm scared now though! The weird/magical aspect was possibly what I enjoyed most about the first album...I hope she's not watering herself down

How do you like the "Pearl" songs? (evidently this is her alter-ego hmm )

I was reading an interview she gave in a magazine, and she was saying that she was like in character as a bitchy blonde named Pearl when she wrote some of the songs.... lol

Lemme try to find the article online, brb...

ok, here we go...

You're probably familiar with Natasha Khan, aka the mastermind behind Bat for Lashes, aka that unicorn-loving hippie-goth chick who broke out with 2006's genuinely haunting Fur & Gold. But you are probably not familiar with Pearl, Khan's "destructive, self-absorbed, blonde, femme fatale" alter ego. (Sounds like somebody got a little too into I Am...Sasha Fierce.) Khan and Pearl will do battle all over Bat for Lashes' new album, Two Suns, due out on Astralwerks April 6.

Think split personality albums can be kinda pretentious? Well, you probably shouldn't read this next sentence: A press release goes on to describe Pearl as a "direct foil to Khan's more mystical, desert-born spiritual self" and the end of the LP finds Khan "confronting the end of the illusory world and prepare for wherever the world will take her next." And here we thought Pearl was just the go-to moniker for all 1950s receptionists.

...so do any songs sound dramatically different from the rest? lol

lol. i didn't know about this. the album just sounds like it's natasha all
the way but with this new info i'm gonna have to listen a bit closer and
see if i can make out which songs are pearl. although i guess "pearl's dream"
is an obvious one, lol.

by the way this "pearl" sounds more like annie lennox's alter ego for
"savage" than beyonce's sasha fierce imo.

cool.

Yeah, I cringe every time I see her juxtaposed with Beyonce, just because of the whole alter ego thing neutral
I haven't heard Savage, but now I'm interested hmmm

oh and let me know if the songs sound different to you, know that you know that "Pearl" wrote some of them lol

oh, that's awesome! definitely going to check her out.

but is anyone else slightly put off by solo acts with stage names that make them seem like they should be a band?
