Jigga lost his mind -- Check this quote out. [Hip Hop] has changed America immensely... Hip-hop has done more than any leader, politician, or anyone to improve race relations.
"Racism is taught in the home... and it's very hard to teach racism to a teenager who idolises, say, Snoop Dogg. It's hard to say, 'That guy is less than you.' The kid is like, 'I like that guy, he's cool. How is he less than me?' That's why this generation is the least racist generation ever. You see it all the time. Go to any club. People are intermingling, hanging out, enjoying the same music. Of course, take this for what it is, considering the source: http://www.mediatakeout.c...obama.html But if it's true, he has lost his mind. But I don't expect anything less from an MC who referred to himself as JayHova. thoughts? Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Actually in some ways he may be correct.....but it has all been offset by the NEGATIVE side of hiphop which is quite large.

Motown music ('60s music and most '70s music in general) had a bigger impact than hip-hop did in "race relations" IMHO. Hip-hop plays a part but the genre gets too much credit I think so Jay's talking a bunch of hogwash.

Nope he's got it wrong, big time. Just because tons of white people buy rap music, doesnt mean they arent racist, as a matter of fact alot of "white teens" are growing up with a racist point of view because of alot of rap music, and also because of the image and stereotypes put out there by a good portion of hip hop. Sorry Jay, you need to go back and check the things you speak on, before you speak "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Is that why the sale and registration of guns and rifles are at an all-time high since Obama won the election? What about The Red States refusing "Mr.O's" Stimilus Package. This country is headed for near Civil War... What about that Oakland Cop who killed that brutha? Yeah.. He's drunk with the wine of Babylon. He better not have his own "scandal". Hell, the same thing could have been said about the disco era also. Whites and blacks were listening to the same music during that era also. But if he thinks that shit hop has made race relations better because Obama was elected, he needs to think again. Obama does not look or act like a trashy shit hopper.
The reason race relations have gotten better, is because we have drifted further and further in years away from the segregation days. More generations have gone to school together and have worked together at their jobs. Also, more and more of the older generation that wanted to keep segregation alive have died off. That's why things have gotten better. Not because some shit hop trash has a group of whites and blacks who share the same dull taste in music together. He needs to bring his ass down to Mississippi. He'll see tons of white kids who hate black people but love them some shit hop music. . . . [Edited 3/19/09 14:38pm] Andy is a four letter word.

I would disagree with the point that white hip-hop fans aren't racist..
Where I live in a small town in the UK there are lots of kids listening exclusively to r&b/hip-hop, immersing themselves in the style & culture. Unfortunately when they speak their comments are mostly racist, basically against any non-white person.

If he said that, he's delusional.

Hmmm, J and his wife sound more ignorant every time they open their mouths. There was more of a "come together" vibe even during the hippy/free love/black is beautiful/women's lib era. Listen to all the message songs from that time period.
If this generation is less racist, it has a lot to do with them being raised by people from "that" generation who listened to that music. And if he really thinks that hip hop has done more than any leader like MLK, for example, then he is truly talking out of his ass. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Damn. We need a more thoughtful voice in hip hop when it comes to discussions on race relations. Jay Z got it all wrong. The little white boy or girl that idolize Snoop Dogg or 50 cent may start to form stereotypical images about the black man and his role and purpose in life, and the way he treat women.
Snoop. Jay Z. 50 cent= POWERFUL images. My son told me one day that the white kids was making fun of him in school one day. He told me that they teased him because they think that they are more "blacker" than he is. My son speak proper, dress accordingly, and very respectful. My son respond in a very thoughtful way when he carry on a conversation with anyone. Sadly, I think that scares most of his white peers because they are not accustomed to seeing a young black man carry himself in that matter. Hmmm...I wonder what makes the white kids say that about my son? Is it because they see the hip hop images on tv and think that every black guy should act that way? I love hip hop, but this genre of music begs for a more diverse setting. _______________________________________________________________________________________ You can hate me for who I am, cuz I won't be something that i'm not.
