Watching David Byrne directed movie 'True Stories'

It's on VH1 Classic right now...

from 1986

just had this big monologue with David strolling past stores in an 80s mall. (Kinda trippy to see the old Gap storefront).

I don't quite get the premise, and I missed a bit of the beginning.
