I like that song as well, even if it's pure pop.

A few months ago I made a list of my LEAST favorite songs of all time, and this came in at number 3. I hate absolutely everything about it, from her whiny vocals to the mind-numbing guitar strumming. I really hated the late 90s!
Releasing such a terrible song makes the singer deserve to have her head shaved. And then they had to go destroy the beautiful song "There She Goes" by the La's with their atrocious cover. Doubly shaved! [Edited 3/16/09 3:24am] Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

...but you don't like the Beatles, so whatever. I at least marginally respect The Beatles, or at least their influence. Sixpence needs to be poured down the drain like the salmonella-infested rotten, curdled and spotted milk that they are. I guess this gives me a topic for Imago's "Artists you have an irrational hatred for" thread. Poor little Sixpence comes along and exploits the navel-gazing audience tired of the shallowness of the late 90s, and little did they know how truly awful their music was and the vitriolic hatred it could induce! It just got over-played. Plus it was attached to that vile Freddie Prinze Jr movie that I can't remember the name of now. I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

I love it when folks go apoplectic... ...over a tune. That means the music did its job of spurring an emotional reaction. Maybe just not the one they intended. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

The objects of his venom still leave me scratching my head, though...I think this is a perfectly lovely, sunny, 60's style pop song.

For a "harmless" band like that to produce such real anger is puzzling. Just thinking about them truly and honestly makes me angry! It's either: a) I take music way too seriously, b) I am a serious nutter, or c) Sixpence None the Richer is just that terrible! I'd like to think it's c, but I can't objectively argue that it's not a and b. Can we settle on all 3? I mean, if that song can bring out more venom in me than anything by Ashlee Simpson, it's really one for the ages. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Not the deepest song in the world but most great pop songs aren't. Where the hell is the trail going on the dude's father's map? Not sure but does it matter? Not a great song but a great pop song...it's on the same level to me as "Barely Breathing" or Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn" or that damn Donna Lewis song...don't want to admit that I bump up the stereo just a little louder when they come on but I do. I am a SUCKER for disposable "of the moment" pop and the 90s were full of these earwigs. All good things they say never last...
