The only adult contemporary R&B artist seeing Freddie during that time.... That's the problem. An R&B artist should never be adult contemporary. LOL. You DO have a point....

that was CLEARLY a limp wristed situation I have mentioned that very clip to a lot of people! He just forgot himself and went right into character. I was sure of him after that! What did Harlepolis say? "Hooooow u doooooin'!" Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.

I said I remember him being on the show, not what he said! Yeah,it's a quote from that episode In this episode,Freddie plays himself and he appears in a scene with the "cool" Steve Urkel (not the nerdy one) and he utters that line.

Alexander O'Neal, not really a contest. I mean I like me some Freddie every now and then, especially his debut album was top notch, it probably promised more than his career could deliver, so overall Alex certainly wins this.

Anyway, Alexander all the way. I never thought Freddie could sing and figureed he was just a Luther wannabe. I heard about that... And yeah, I do think he was a Luther clone at best, lol. I would love to have been at Sylvia's on one of the nights when Luther and Freddie used to have those "sing-offs". I'll bet that was the coolest show ever. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

WHAAAAT? So he made recordings before his debut album??? Yep, and one more harder-to-find single was released a year after this, on Rich Records. Jesse Johnson seems to have performed on that second single as well. "...Moving from city to city, he sang in little-known groups like The Philadelphia Stories, Black Market Band and The Mystics, but also in Jackson, Mississippi based Wynd Chymes, a band he left in 1977, prior to them getting a deal with RCA. The following year, Alex joined Flyte Tyme which, among others, consisted of Jellybean Johnson, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Monte Moir, Jesse Johnson and Cynthia Johnson (who later would become the lead vocalist in Lipps Inc., famed for "Funkytown"). When Flyte Tyme merged with Morris Day's group Enterprise, changed name to The Time and Prince got them signed with Warner Brothers, it was made clear to Alex that his services were no longer needed and he briefly ventured into a totally different musical direction. -Yeah, I formed my own rock group, called "Alexander". We used to play stuff like Billy Squier and Def Leppard! In 1983 Alex debuted as a solo artist with "Do You Dare" on Erect Records in Chicago and his next single came out on the Rich label. "Attitude" was a song that according to Alex had "the best guitar solo Jesse Johnson ever did". In 1984, studio sessions with Monte Moir began and the songs would eventually land on Alex' debut album, released in 1985..." http://hem.bredband.net/f...index.html

Notice how the "r" curves "upward" toward the 12 o'clock position. Erect has some cool acts in their catalogue : With a lil' touch of EW&Flava The last 2 clips right here above are 2 mixes with minor differences Gap Band-inspired [Edited 3/13/09 14:27pm]

Freddie had something like 10 #1 songs in the 80s and early 90s. I always preferred Alex, also. I just recently got into Freddie's music. Many have said Alex's dependency issue hampered his success.
[Edited 3/12/09 8:04am] So what? 10 #1's? I doubt that. I think maybe four #1 R&B's, I don't think he ever topped the Hot 100. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

[Edited 3/12/09 8:04am] So what? 10 #1's? I doubt that. I think maybe four #1 R&B's, I don't think he ever topped the Hot 100. He had 9 (or 10) #1 R&B singles: 1. Rock Me Tonight 2. You Are My Lady 3. Have You Ever Loved Somebody 4. Tasty Love 5. Jam Tonight 6. Hey Lover 7. Nice 'n' Slow 8. Love Me Down 9. Do Me Again The tenth #1 is his duet with Melba Moore, "A Little Bit More." A few more just missed (peaking at #2): 1. I Don't Want to Lose Your Love 2. Main Course 3. I Could Use a Little Love (Right Now) He had 4 other top-10 hits and his first 4 albums all reached #1. In many ways, Freddie Jackson is probably the most successful R&B singer of the late mid-'80s to early '90s -- definitely the most successful one who didn't really cross over to the pop charts. His biggest Hot 100 single was "You Are My Lady" (#12). "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
