Man, there's nothing that will whip me back to The 60's quicker than listening to this album (...okay-okay, MAYBE The 5th Dimension, or Three Dog Night, lol). Talk about ARRANGEMENTS! And to think: This is the kind of music they used to play on the radio everyday. The 60's and early 70's radio sure spoiled me! lol

biggrin Yeah, really!! I was just out of diapers when this stuff was being played, so it made a big impression in my formative years.....just a wide variety of music that was easily accessible - parents were playin it, it was on the radio, bands were on TV --

It's also interesting that there was a lot of musical mixing going on at the time - Pop, Soul and Classical, Pop and Jazz, Funk and Rock---

Miles was checking out Hendrix, Sly and Joni, and vice-versa..... Rotary Connection, Blood Sweat and Tears, Chicago, Santana, The Free Design, Mahavishnu, Stevie Wonder, Frank Zappa, Three Dog Night, Marvin Gaye, Weather Report, Earth Wind and Fire, Tower of Power, War, Mandrill.....Hell, I thought it was always gonna be like that....little did I know, lol.....there's still a lotta good stuff around, but boy, do they make you dig for it...Clear Channel is doing their damndest to make sure you don't hear much of anything.

lol that should be the company slogan--"Clear Channel: Clearing out the music, so you can hear what's left"
lol

lol I love her, but Nina Simone was Always livid, lol

That's Kool, though--I'm sure there's a lotta folks who probably thought it was blasphemous for BS&T to even attempt it...like you said, it's not the original, but I really love the arrangement...

Very interesting to follow the history of this band.

From the initial album of the group that Al Kooper started in 1967...

...Child Is The Father To Man

BS&T was one of the first "Rock" bands to include a horn section as a part of the group.
Electric Flag (Mike Bloomfield/Buddy Miles) might be a consideration but they weren't really a "Rock" group.

Through the first tenure of...

...David Clayton Thomas.

And so on and so forth.

In more recent history, the band (whoever the musicians happened to be) started using Chuck Negron (Three Dog Night) as the lead singer.

An interesting thing to note is the number of musicians that have been associated with the group over the years...

biggrin Break it on Down!!!

I was only familiar with the David Clayton Thomas years....and I knew about Jaco, but I didn't realize that Mike Stern, Jeff Richman, Gorge Wadenius, Randy Bernsen, Steve Khan, Barry Finnerty, Nel Stubenhaus, Don Alias and Larry Willis all had a cup of coffee at BS&T!
