Daft Punk to write sci-fi film score for Tron 2.0Disney's sci-fi sequel to 1982 classic about evil computers set to get the Daft Punk treatment

Perfect guys for the job ... legendary robotheads Daft Punk.

If you're going to film the sequel to a 1982 film about evil computers, you might as well get France's finest robot DJs to do the soundtrack. None other than Daft Punk have signed on to write the score of Tron 2.0, a techno-stalgia trip due in 2011.

Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter will join director Joseph Kosinski and Lost screenwriters Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz on the Disney project, according to the usually-reliable Upcoming Film Scores blog. This will be Daft Punk's first original film score, despite writing much of the music for the Interstella 5555 anime and directing their own sci-fi epic, Electroma.

Tron 2.0 – also rumoured to be called TR2N – is the "next chapter" in the story of hacker Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) and his efforts against the evil Master Control Program. Bridges will again appear, though House's Olivia Wilde will star alongside Garrett Hedlund, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The original Tron was scored by the influential electronic composer Wendy Carlos.
