Janet needs to give Tina Landon and Shawnette Heard a call. I enjoyed her routines much better that now with Gil as her choreographer.

Boo! Tina's time is up! Last I heard Shawnette is trying to become a director..
Janet should switch it up and leave Gil too.

You know, she really should examine her career in the past and look beyond the "hits". She should hire people that know how to showcase JANET and not feature so many dancers. After I looked at this performance again, I realized that during this performance, my attention was always focused on JANET and not on the other dancers in the show.

See what I mean...

She always pre-records the vocals for certain songs. "If" is one of those. It doesn't bother me as long as she doesn't use the same vocals that were used on the album/single versions. I wish others like Britney would take heed to this.

Yeah, the Velvet Rope tour was great also. I have enjoyed all of her tours except the last one. I did miss out on the RN tour, though.

With the exception of the RN tour, I have seen each of her tours. I LOVE Janet. I was just so disappointed that this last tour was so poorly done.

Besides, she hasn't done that many tours:
Rhythm Nation
Janet
Velvet Rope
All For You
Rock Wit' U

To me, I really enjoyed the Janet and All For You tours. They were excellent. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be All For You. Mostly because of the staging. I also liked the Janet tour for the same reason. Velvet rope was great also, but it seemed like part two of the Janet tour. You can get the VR and AFY tours on DVD. I highly recommend them.

As for this last tour, it was too "gay" in so many ways. The staging was horrible, the arrangements of the songs were bad and there was very little live singing.

Gil needs to stay in his place-a backup dancer. Janet needs someone to bring out her best the way Tina And Shawnette did during that era.

too gay? But that's what makes her awesome! I loved the rock witchu tour, I got to go backstage to meet Janet and attend the soundcheck cause my friend pulled a few strings biggrin I had such a great experience then, and I thought her dancing and singing was at it's best IMO I had also gone to the Velvet Rope and All For You tours.

too gay? No that would have to be cage match between Cher and Kylie Minogue to take the title as the gayest show on earth.

Janet needs to sit down with William Baker and Michael Rooney

Gay means homosexual and/or happy, nothing more. If you're saying a show is too "gay", it doesn't mean anything. You may as well say Richard Pryor shows are too "black" if they aren't to your liking. That isn't acceptable and again, means nothing. lol

We have had this discussion here before. As a matter of fact it was describing Janet's show. It was definitely a fact that the show catered to the gay audience. There were lots of elements incorporated into the show. Besides, I don't think there was a straight person on the stage (other than Janet...and she is questionable at times). wink

BTW, I know people that say Richard Pryor, Kat Williams, Earthquake, etc. are "too black", just like I know people that say "Seinfeld", "Friends", and "Dawson's Creek" are too white. Hell, I know people that say Gary Owen is too black...and he's white. So, its all an opinion...nothing else. I didn't mean for it to come across as insulting. I have many close friends that are gay and several family members. I love gay people. Like Prince said, "I study the bible with my gay friends". biggrin

the show Rock Wit U Tour was far from being Too Gay. aside from some Man on Man action during discipline there wasn't anything that stuck as Janet playing to her gay fanbase anymore than she has in the past. For one the costumes would have been better.

Well, from my understanding, Gil and Janet supervised the costumes. That would mean that Gil doesn't have good taste. There is another stereotype...all gay people are creative and have style. lol

As for Janet not playing for her gay fanbase, that's not necessarilly true. The entire Discipline and Rock Wit U tour, it was marketed to the gay audiences more than it was to the mainstream. Here in Dallas (and in most of the markets), they ran ads in magazines that catered to gay audiences and ran commercials during programming that had a large gay audience. In Dallas, they even had HUGE billboards in the Oaklawn area (where a large gay population lives). They also did the same in Houston.

Island/Def Jam was just trying to repair the damage done by her troll who tried to market her as an urban artist and not a minor gay icon.

however the tour wasn't anything that i would call pandering to the gay fan base. like i said before you want to see a show that is too gay it's Cher and Kylie Minogue

IDJ handled the promotion of the album. Livenation handled the tour. I never said that the tour was "pandered" to the gay fan base, but it was heavily promoted to the gay audience. I think they did that because they know that the gay fan base is very loyal. I don't know about where you live, but here in Dallas, there was hardly any mainstream radio promotion done. They gave a few tickets to urban stations, a few to latin stations and that was pretty much it. I don't think the top 40 station gave any away on the air. If so, there were only a few in the morning.

I also put Janet and All For You above this last tour by a mile. This is probably my least favorite show by her. I think it gets points for the uptempo songs and a nod to the earlier cuts but other than that I would so fire Gil if I could. I think he is the worst. And if he can do better, he didn't do it for this show. Actually, I don't know anyone who likes him very much but I guess the fans are stuck with him.
