Kevin Eubanks on Acoustic and Electric This is a Slight Return to an earlier post--
Before his gig on The Tonight Show, Kevin Eubanks was considered one of the most exhilirating guitarists around, and a master improviser who, like Wes Montgomery, never used a pick. Unfortunately, the Jay Leno sidekick gig never really gave him a chance to display his true gifts. Here's a few takes of him performing outside of the Tonight Show spotlight: " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

I noticed some time ago that Kevin is a much more talented guitarist than he has the opportunity to showcase on The Tonight Show. I found myself listening to some of his music one night on MySpace, which also linked back to more of his music on his own site, and I was blown away. Even the song they play at the end of The Tonight Show, "Kevin's Country", was written by Kevin. His original music is very melodic and mesmerizing. Absolutely beautiful stuff.
Strangely, my only issue with Kevin is that I wish he'd come out the closet, or at the very least; stop claiming that he's straight (just don't say anything). Those poor girls gushing all over him on the set of The Tonight Show don't stand a snowball's chance in Hell of getting into Kevin's pants (... but then again, neither do I, lol ). Jay should stop teasing him so much about his sexuality, it obviously makes Kevin uncomfortable. If he just came out, that would dead all Jay's jokes. Jay has proven time and again to be very gay friendly (Ross The Intern anyone?), but tends to pick on people that hide in the closet.

Kevin is a gifted musician, although I am not too impressed with his song selections as a band leader. For a while there, every time I turned on Leno (which, admittedly, isn't often) he was leading the band in "It's All Right Now."
How do you know Kevin is gay? I thought he was kinda freaky/creepy and has a massive ladies footwear fetish.... "Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..."

I seen those video's before. Mr. Eubanks still does a lot of session work. As far as his own music, too few jazz musicians make enough can to carry them to old age. "The Tonight Show", it was nice if you can get a gig and have a nice steady/predictable income. Of course hie gig with that show is ending soon but I'm sure it's helped his IRA. Basically, the same way I know the sky is blue. I have no doubt.

He'll still be with Jay when The Tonight Show moves to the new time slot.

For awhile, I would hear "House In Order" .... a Mavis Staples song written by Prince. pretty obscure. and I don't even watch that show. but I heard it probably half a dozen times.

Does anyone know if Kevin and the band will stay on when Leno starts airing in a earlier time slot? [Edited 2/15/09 0:44am] "Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..."

Yeah, I've never been impressed with the band on Leno--but maybe that's because it's more designed for mass appeal, which has never been his strong suit, certainly not what he known for previously. But I still have most of the Out- Of-Print stuff he did on GRP, Blue Note and Elektra (as well as some of his newer indepedent releases), and many are still among my favorite listening.... ... That's my favorite, too! That one, Opening Night, and Shadow Prophets are the three I listen to most often... ... [Edited 2/15/09 21:01pm] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

Also tried to find a soundclip of Stevie's "Moments aren't Moments" which Kevin recorded for that same album. I was blown away back then (and still) how powerful Marcus' sound is on that specific track paligap said: "Mellow Yellow" and more of that [Edited 2/16/09 4:46am]
