So you have basically heard very little of their music, but that doesn't stop you from knowing exactly what they're all about, huh? Nice. clapping

And are you really saying you heard "Clocks" and thought Bono was singing it? hmm

I've seen coldplay's performance on the American Music Awards and
they were awful and tonight's grammy performance and they were horrible.
Absolutely horrible.

Coldplay is BOOTLEG version of a-Ha, they even agree. Go search out a-Ha's albums from 1989-2005 and the solo records of Magne F (keyboard player) for a-Ha, thats where the sound is from.

Actually I thought Clocks was a U2 song when it first came out. I remember thikning, "Man, U2's gotten lazy!" and then someone told me it was Coldplay. lol

I think I agree. I'm honestly apathetic about Coldplay though, so I only know what I see/hear of them on award shows, which does make that group seem somewhat overrated I guess.

Strange....but Coldplay stopped being Coldplay....this new CD is shit...and they know it...that's why they don't like to perform it...it shows...trying too hard to be creative when simple pop is what they do best....they are not U2 or Radiohead or A-ha ....or Blur...and nothing like the Beatles....

So why produce a CD that's not indie student friendly...and try to be too smart..? eek

They had more fun with X&Y , AROBTH and Parachutes...Bring the fun and love back to music Chris and leave that creative "Beatles" lyric shit at home... lol

OTOH, I think this is easily their best album. I always thought of them as a poor man's Travis, but I think they finally broke that mold with this one. While I like a lot of the songs, the first three albums were all inconsistent (A Rush of Blood... being my favorite of the three). This album is a good listen throughout to me.

ugh. i can't stand when someone spouts off some crap and then they openly admit they don't know what they're talking about.

so you don't have any of Coldplay's albums, and you've decided that you don't like them.

whatever.

Coldplay seems to be one of those bands that are popular to dislike. i don't get it. i've liked all of their albums, and their recent concert this fall was one of the best live shows i've ever been to. (and what was that lame ass line about them "not wanting to perform the new album"?)

If you thought it was "Bono" singing "Clocks" then you may want to have your ears checked. People always compare Coldplay to U2 but I don't see the comparison really. I would go with the Radio "Ultra-lite" comparison.

I agree. I think that inconsistent is a great way to describe the first three Coldplay records. And while I do think that they are channeling U2 in a big way on Viva la Vida, it doesn't come across as outright theft. It's just an Edge guitar line here, or a Bono-esque delivery there. I think Viva is hands down their best work yet. Big props to Brian Eno for dragging it out of them.

Nah, they were always better than that. I think all four of their albums are great.

I mean, really! Love him or hate him, Bono's voice is pretty damn recognizable. Chris Martin sounds nothing like him.

shrug I'll take The Man Who over every Coldplay album except this last one. Their first three albums have great songs ("In My Place" and "Shiver" immediately spring to mind), but there's too much filler or subpar material (at least IMO).

Coldplay and Radiohead are nothing alike, not even close. Coldplay are U2 and a-ha thrown together, and they know it and admit freely, jesus guy berryman is friggin on the next a-ha record and plays in one of the members solo projects bands. The Radiohead thing came up when RadioHead lost their "best band in the world title", so the crazed Radiohead fans threw this comparison out there, nothing alike, never were. Colplay has songs that are structured as songs to be songs for lyrics and melody. RadioHead is not on that path and never were, thats not knocking them, thats just pointing out the way they do things and the way Colplay do things. As for the "Best Band in the world" title, its been handed out at least 3-4 times a year by Q magazine, which knows nothing, it used to be good, but now has all the knowledge and relevance of Blender magazine.

I really can't stand Coldplay.

This is going to sound really snobby, but oh well!

They sound like "coffee table" music- inoffensive and suitable for most social occasions like beige wallpaper, but is anybody truly moved by it?

I think that's the point of them really. They have all of the ingredients. They almost move you, but then back off from it just in time for you to avoid forming an emotion based around what you've heard.

I don't think they were anything like U2 before this current album, but they do have similarities now. There's no hiding that Brian Eno is producing them now.

We'll have to agree to disagree, then. I like The Man Who a great deal, but better than A Rush Of Blood To The Head? Nooooo.
