I was thinking Bruce was one of the few performers that might give Prince a run for his money, but Prince's half-time show still trumps the Boss's by a long shot.

Oh Bruce got the halftime show. I think I read about that on here a while back, I had forgotten.

I didn't even know this was Superbowl weekend until a woman at work informed me.

Hey, give the Boss his due. It was awesome! woot! headbang guitar excited bananadance Not as good as Prince's halftime show or as poignant as U2's but it was awesome nonetheless. If you know anything about Springsteen's live shows, it definitely did not disappoint.

I was actually hoping for more. I think he only sang 4 songs. I know it's only half time but it felt like it went pretty quick.

I just watched the show and it was a very good show. It was filled with energy and that what a halftime show is supposed to be. That said, Prince's show is still the best Super Bowl halftime show.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Bruce is an amazing live performer in his on right; however, he hasn't adapted his songs to lend themselves to a multisong-spanning "medley". Prince is much more adept at it (often to his fans' frustration), so he was able to pack a lot more into his half-time show than Bruce was.

Tenth Avenue Freeze-out (truncated)
Born to Run
Working on a Dream (truncated)
Glory Days (truncated)

Ya know, I really can't relate to any of those songs anymore (well, maybe a little to Glory Days) and, when I go see him in May, there's like a zillion songs (most of them written post-Born in the U.S.A.) I'd rather hear.

But I loved the FUCK out of it! smile

Was Prince's setlist more adventurous? Yes. Is Prince a better musician technically? Yes. Did I enjoy Prince's set more? No.

But, then again, I have a 30-year-history with Bruce and I find him way more likable than Prince.

But why compare? They were both great, in my books and I would love to see them play together again!

P.S. Bruce's wife, Patti (redhead on guitar/backing vox) is also a P fan and has said some of his more complex vocal harmony arrangements influenced the song "Rainy Day Man" on her excellent Play It as It Lays.

Bruce can usually stop the knee-slide just short of the lens, but I guess he got a little overexcited tonight. lol

Liked it, didn't love it. Bruce had as much energy as he could muster, but it still felt flat.

I just wanna see who gets on his case about the mic stand as a dick.

Not a big fan of the Boss (besides his duet with Stevie in "We Are the World" love and my unabashed love of "Dancing in the Dark"), but I enjoyed it. In recent times, I'd put it ahead of the Stones and Petty but behind Prince and Paul.

I'm surprised he didn't pull out the gymnastic throw-himself-into-an-upside-down-hang-on-the-mic-stand. It is impressive ('specially for a 60-year-old dude).

I thought the same thing. I wonder if someone's going to do a side-by-side comparison of Prince's guitar dick and Bruce's mic stand dick.

They were both wardrobe malfunctions.

I'm not a huge fan, but I saw him live earlier this year and was quite impressed. Bruce played a solid 3-hour set with no intermission or mid-show clothes change. Make sure you pee beforehand so you won't miss anything.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan either, but I feel he's one of the performers you have to see at least once... and I heard good things about his concerts, especially what length is concerned, so I give him a shot... thanks for the advice about the peeing... I'll bring a bottle with me!! wink

Yeah, I went to see him largely because he's one of the few great performers left. I think it's a shame that once the greats are gone, few from the current generation of performers can take their place.
