When did funk turn gay?

I mean James Brown didn't have that queen vibe, but everything since then kinda does. Clinton himself doesn't but his gang sure rock a handbag on stage. And since the 80s things really turned pink! Cameo, Prince, Zapp? purse

My question is, when did funk turn gay?
