The Young Rascals - "Groovin'"

Groovin' (1967)

I feel like I'm cheating on some of my favorite albums, because I only just met this one this past weekend, and I'm already in love with it! love I was already familiar with the singles from this one - Groovin', A Girl Like You and How Can I Be Sure...all of them classics - so I wanted to know what the rest was like. Not a bad song in the bunch! It's pop, it's rock, it's soul, it's psychedlia...it's all that and then some without feeling like a mishmash.

I knew You Better Run as one of my fave Pat Benatar tunes, but I didn't know they did it first. Nice garage tune. The B3 is everywhere on here! Great keyboard work. With the exception of one cover tune, A Place in the Sun, these are all tunes penned by the band.

I was hoping to find a youtube clip of my favorite non-single track from the album, It's Love but no luck.

They were a very great rock group. "Groovin'" and "A Girl Like You" are the shit.

I'd even broaden it out more and just say they were a great group. biggrin They charted pop, rock and R&B. What do you think of How Can I Be Sure?

That's one of the greatest pop songs I ever heard. I remember hearing it all time on my oldies station!

The Rascals Rock! (Young and otherwise)

I must have told you that I heard them debut Groovin'...

...at this show (which I saw 3 times).

...Dino Danelli was a big influence back when I was learning to play drums.

A favorite from their first album (and I think their first single)...

...I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore

And from their second album...

...Love Is A Beautiful Thing
(can't believe nobody's uploaded Lonely Too Long disbelief )

No longer "Young", this tune from their 5th album...

...People Got To Be Free

Yes, I have done Groovin about 4 times now on kareoke at Cloggys bar in Minneapolis.

I bought the album on the strength of it a couple months ago! Good album! But I hate that blue 60's Atlantic logo! fuse Dammit.

Learning how to sing How Can I Be Sure for Kareoke too.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.

It's nice that you went there when it first hit, tA! biggrin

I always loved "People Got to Be Free", that's one of the most funkiest and soulful joints that any rock group ever did especially at that time in the very late 1960s! nod
