A stone cold classic. I love that album the only track from it that I haven't played with my quintet is 'Dance Cadaverous'
I just love Wayne's compositions and he was at the top of his game with that album. if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

This guy is such a lyrical player and a seriously special composer.
And what a band on this set... Herbie Hancock Ron Carter Elvin Jones Freddie Hubbard ...Sub Tony Williams for Elvin Jones and you've got the V.S.O.P. group. All fans of serious music should have a Wall-O-Wayne discs in their library. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Goodness, that'd be ALL of them! Never heard a bad Wayne Shorter album. One album i've been listening to quite a bit lately is the under the radar... ...High Life (1997 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance) Quite a bit more of a contemporary approach than the more "straight ahead" style of Speak No Evil. But to me, it's just as valid from a composition point of view. Mr. Shorter just writes great tunes, plain and simple. Rare live performance of the song... ...Children Of The Night from that album. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Yeah that Miller-produced record is great.
From the Blue note sessions (leader and sideman) to the tenure with Miles to the Weather Report albums, Wayne is an all-time favorite. I only bemoan the WR years because he wrote less tunes than in previous associations. The newer Shorter albums are all excellent: the quintet with Brian Blade John Patiucci and Danilo Perez Footprints:Live!, Beyond the Sound Barrier and the expanded orchestra Alegria feature excellent playing and Shorter writing more than ever before. OOOPS I mean Shorter is adding on to his ouerve. The new albums feature reworkings of his classic compositions and standards plus some new tunes mixed in. [Edited 1/24/09 12:47pm] test

I'm stilll looking for the complete video of this Show!!!!! guitarist David Gilmore and drummer Rodney Holmes were on fire on that tour! and Wayne, as usual was Incredible... an earlier compostion, "The Three Marias", from that same tour, 96, in Lugano... Oh, and btw, I agree with PFunkJazz, the new stuff with Brain Blade, Perez and Patittucci are Wonderful!! ... "At The Fair" was the first track i heard from it which casted a spell on me. Great and laidback bassgroove which Marcus Miller recorded for that composition. Planning to upload another CD which i have from him, to my iTunes :

I agree! For me, Wayne's High Life album is one of Marcus Miller's greatest productions, and some of his best playing.... At The Fair, Pandora Awakened, Children Of The Night..... and Wayne's compositions...man, each track is like a class in composition! ...
