Does Anybody Like MINISTRY?

This band is so Cool. They have changed their sound since the first album. Revenge is my favorite song. I hope they tour again cause they said they were were Retiring. Anybody seen the last tour? I was at the Fillmore in NYC and it was Jam Packed. That place is real small; used to be IRVING PLAZA and Club 54 and PRINCE played there in 1998 and that show was AWESOME. They have a picture of PRINCE on the wall up the stairs.

Until FilthPig, I did. Then after that it was a load of crap.

Up until then the music was very interesting, even if much was not my cup of tea. I wish they had gone more of the direction of Twitch, or at least not ignore that album.

I saw them on the Mind is a terrible thing to taste on NYE '90 and it was insane.

Just "Everyday Is Halloween" because of the drum machine and James Brown growls.

The Land Of Rape And Honey / Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste / Psalm 69 are when they were at their peak. I don't care for any albums before or after those although some of their early singles were cool.

It's almost a guilty plearsure for me listening to that, knowing that is very UNLIKE what they sound like. For the tour I went to they advertised the show on the radio with Everyday is Halloween and most I think left 20 min into the show as it was obvious that that song was not going to be played.

Same here. I think I prefer Mind to the other 2 simply for it's complexity and raw sound. Land of Rape and Honey, while great, the songs didn't go many places and many were just chuga chuga guitar/drum songs.

Ministry were a great band but boy did they end as a joke.

With Paul Barker they really shined as we got "Land Of Rape & Honey", "The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste", "Psalm 69", "Filth Pig", "Dark Side Of The Spoon" and "Animositisomina" not to mention the legendary Lard albums with Jello Biafra on vocals.....then you also have Ministry's Revolting Cocks albums which were also great pre "Cocked & Loaded" and of course the great Pailhead album Ministry did with Ian MacKaye of Fugazi fame.

As a huge Ministry fan I can honestly say that Ministry's best albums were EASILY "Filth Pig" & "Dark Side Of The Spoon". This was Ministry at their most experimental doing their version of a Swans/Melvins/Godflesh record but with a big bit of sarcastic venom thrown in for a good laugh and a great big f**k you to the boneheads who wanted Psalm 69 part 2.

Alot of people will always yell how great "Stigmata" or "NWO", "Just One Fix" or Jesus Built My Hotrod" were (and to be fair they were great songs).....but f**k that.....songs like "Reload", "Filth Pig", "Lava", Eureka Pile" & "Nursing Home" crushed them to bits!!!! The bass and pure slowed down organic venom on those songs are genius. Slow songs ALWAYS kick a quick songs ass!!!

Barker left after "Animositisomina" and after that we got Jourgensen's Bush trilogy. The first of which I though was quite good for the most part. Houses Of The Mole was actually the Psalm 69 partb 2 that Warner Bros didn't get cool The last two after were just pure Thrash Metal albums with not much experimentation at all were an insult as the swansong for what was once a superb band.

It's funny though how Ministry went from Industrial to cheesy Synth Pop back to Industrial to Industrial Metal to Sludge to Thrash Metal and let's not forget the Lard, Revco, 1000 Homo DJ's and Pailhead records in between!

Ministry definately had their momments and for me absolutely crapped over bands like NIN and Skinny Puppy.

By the way I did indeed see the last CuLaTour which was supposed to be a mammouth 3hr set that spanned 30 yrs of material.....what a joke that was!!! We got nothing from the best albums Filth Pig & Dark Side, nothing from With Sympathy (for good reason), Animositisomina or Twitch. One song from Rape & Honey, 2 from Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste and 2 from Psalm 69???? The rest of the 3 hr set was from the Bush Trilogy....BOOOOO!!!!!

AND they ended the set with a cover of "What A Wonderful World"?????

Ministry is and will always be fuckin dope. I saw their LAST tour last year, shook Uncle Al's hand. First album I got from them was Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste. Been a fan for quite some time. I agree about the CULaTour though... nothing from Filth Pig or the more obscure albums. But during those days Al was on quite a bit of heroin, hence the experimentation and down beats.

I became a fan of Ministry kind of late in the game, missed their heyday but I saw shows from their last two tours.

I'm also a fan of The Land Of Rape And Honey / Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste / Psalm 69 - - but their most recent stuff, not so much. After Paul Barker left, it all changed and not in many people's opinion for the better.

Al Jourgensen still remains colorful, however lol :
