Has An Elton John thread been done before? Your fave Elton John songs?
Okay, I could go on, but I'll leave some.

Indeed, there are rarely Elton John threads...
I'm not a fan of Elton's. I like his ballads though. My faves are Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me and Idol. I never would no them without George Michael, who did wonderful covers.

i know elton john mainly because of the covers other people did
of his songs. i liked most of his singles through the 80's and early 90's but i don't think i've ever bought any of his albums. lately i've been listening a lot to sinead's cover of "sacrifice" which i thought was a very beautiful song. love "daniel" and most of his 70's stuff now. actually, i really should get a good overview disc or box. what could you recommend me? and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Bare minimum listening for any human with ears. This is even better... Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Paging lastdecember...
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is my favorite by him. The title track and "Bennie and the Jets" are my two favorite tracks. "Something About the Way You Love Tonight" is a more recent fave. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I liked Elton when he was more rockish, but when he went adult contemporary he bores the shit out of me.
though still standing is a great lil pop song and I love In Private a b side of him and the pet shop boys. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

Cant find the thread, but i will re-create some of what i posted from that thread.
One thing i know that i pointed out was just the massive output during his "commercial/mainstream" period, basically this is what artists call their honeymoon period, where the masses want everything of yours. For Elton his output is staggering, he had 17 albums in a little over 5 years, and this was during that period, but it was not only that, he was touring constantly too. By the time was 33 he was releasing his 21st album, hence the "21 at 33" cd that he released. But the record that to me is the most staggering, and regardless what you think of Elton it will never be broken, the record of having at least ONE TOP 40 song in every year from 1969-1999, aa 30 year span, in most of those years he had more, but just the fact that he was able to stay within "radios playlists" for 30 years, and these are the main chart entries, not AC or MOR charts. I dont care who comes out now and has HITS and "sells" there aint no way they are touching that record. And contrary to what people may think, Elton's albums didnt "suck" in the 80's. True he had some "misses" with albums like "leather jackets" (awful) but he had alot of "gems" in those 80's albums. Heres a list of albums that i took from an Elton site, a couple of missing things in there, but its a pretty accurate record of his albums for the most part. 1969 Empty Sky 1970 Elton John 1970 Tumbleweed Connection 1971 11-17-70 1971 Friends Soundtrack 1971 Madman Across The Water 1972 Honky Chateau 1973 Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player 1973 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 1974 Caribou 1974 Greatest Hits 1975 Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy 1975 Rock Of The Westies 1976 Here And There 1976 Blue Moves 1977 Greatest Hits Volume 2 1978 A Single Man 1979 Victim Of Love 1980 21 At 33 1981 The Fox 1982 Jump Up 1983 Too Low For Zero 1984 Breaking Hearts 1985 Ice On Fire 1986 Leather Jackets 1987 Live In Australia With The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra 1988 Reg Strikes Back 1989 Sleeping With The Past 1990 To Be Continued 1992 The One 1992 Rare Masters 1993 Duets 1994 Reg Dwight's Piano Goes Pop 1994 The Lion King Soundtrack 1995 Made In England 1996 Love Songs 1997 The Big Picture 1999 Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida 1999 The Muse Soundtrack 2000 The Road To El Dorado Soundtrack 2000 One Night Only 2001 Songs From The West Coast 2002 Greatest Hits 1970-2002 2004 Peachtree Road 2006 The Captain And The Kid As you can see for the first 20 years of his recording career Elton had at least 1 album a year 1969-1989, during 1990-1992 Elton was in rehab to clear up his addictions to Drugs and Alcohol and his eating disorder, all in one shot. Aside from Eltons recording, and again what you might think of him. He is the most charitable person, giving 100% of his proceeds from 1989 and on of "singles" to his AIDS foundation, and this is really big considering ELTON has the biggest selling single of all time with "candle in the wind" (englands rose for Princess Diana). For me my favorite stuff of Elton are the obscure album cuts that often go unmentioned and not talked about, but he does do alot of them when on tour. I read he's the most charitable celebrity in the UK. And do you know who comes second? George Michael. He gave the proceeds for Last Christmas (and still does), Too Funky, Happy, Killer, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, etc... all for charity away. And the best thing: Unlike Michael Jackson, who lets his generousity include in the Guiness Book, Elton and George don't talk often about their charity work.

[Edited 12/30/08 16:57pm] No problem, too few elton threads on this forum, maybe we can sacrifice 50 MJ "rumoured never happening album threads" for one "happening" Elton or any artist thread in 2009. But that aside, its pretty insane to me that in talks of greatest artists of all time, Eltons name doesnt come up around here, very disturbing considering he clearly exceeds alot of the ones mentioned. Speaking of which ...has EJ been inducted already in the R&RHOF ? Oh yeah he is in, i forget which year, but it was first ballot entry, i think 1994. In most statistics he is always in the top 3 with The Beatles and Elvis. And to me he and Bernie Taupin are the best writing team, since Lennon and McCartney were just a publishing title, not a collaboration. Though Taupin and Elton have never written a song in the same room together EVER, they are on the same page. Bernie Taupin supplies the lyrics and Elton composes and writes all the music on piano, a perfect match. They did split for about 18 months back in the very late 70's into the very early 80's. This is where Elton's "Single Man" album came from, also singles like "Little Jeannie" and "blue eyes" were from that time period without Bernie. But when they reunited one of the first things to come from it was "empty garden". This 4-disc box set, "To Be Continued...", makes an incredibly persuasive argument for Elton John being considered one of the few musical legends of the 20th century. And after devouring all that you'll probably end up a victim of circumstance, forced to chase down many other essential Elton albums on your hands and knees -- even if you're broke. === Album Name Edit === [Edited 12/30/08 23:04pm]
