On the r&b side, they were pretty big. Especially from about 83 to 88 or so. Their self-titled album was their last true hit. It produced the hits "Snake In The Grass" and "Don't Rock The Boat".

I don't think their last album performed well (can't remember the title).

Freakazoid is the cut but No parking (on the dance floor) was their biggest hit in the US with Wet my whistle and Midas Touch being close behind.

I know they were
big in my neighborhood lol

I had the 45 for "Freak-A-Zoid"
I think I still have it
but it got damaged in a fire
back in the 90's

it's warped like hell
but I kept it for sentiment

because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

Their biggest hit on the Billboard Hot 100 was Operator. It peaked at #18 in 1985. It peaked at #1 on the R&B chart. Don't Rock The Boat was their biggest single on the Club Play chart peaking at #1 in 1988.

On the albums front, No Parking On The Dance Floor was their highest charting album on Billboard 200 peaking at #27. It peaked at #2 on the R&B albums chart.

Yup. At least in the R&B world. I use to go to their concerts faithfully when I was a young teen. They have concert vids available on youtube I think, and looking back at the kind of costumes they wore for shows...Lord, it was Glitter-Spandex HELL---not to mention this was the height of the wet curly perm craze lol

They were big on the R&B side but not the pop side but hey, fuck the pop side anyway, that's when artists start fucking up is when they crossover. lol

Anyway, they had been around for a few albums but really didn't make a big R&B splash until their "No Parking On The Dance Floor" album. After that, they got regular airplay with every album.

Midnight Star is still together. They appear in concert often across the US. They toured Japan last year and are set to be in Amsterdaim in 2009.
They have had several big R&B singles on the Billboard Charts: "Freakazoid", "Operator", "Midas Touch", "Wet My Whistle" and "Don't Rock The Boat". Their biggest album was NO PARKING ON THE DANCE FLOOR, which was double platinum by RIAA. They also did the song "Slow Jam" (co-written by Babyface) which was covered by Usher and Monica on the SOUL FOOD Soundtrack. Another album cut favourite of theirs was "Curious", which was used by Leverst, Sweat and Gill on their paltinum album several years back. The have an official myspace page and a website. Several of their members have been involved in production and sessions with acts like: Toni Braxton, The Whispers, Klymaxx, Shanice and The Deele.
