XTC - A sampler ...
It's a shame that the only really huge hit XTC had was "Dear God"... I thought they were one of the most talented, versatile bands in Pop music...to start in post-punk and go through Beatle-esque Pop, Jazz, Ska, Folk, Rock, World Music etc..... The Green Man This World Over The Mayor of Simpleton Wonderland Mermaid Smiled The Man Who Sailed Around His Soul English Roundabout World Wrapped in Grey Stupidly Happy Making Plans for Nigel Summer's Cauldron ... I Love it....XTC is an AMAZING band and you forgot GENERAL'S AND MAJORS. The Black SEA is my Favorite album. Sad that ANDY PARTRIDGE doesn't go onstage because of SEVERE STAGE FRIGHT. They played at a club named TRAXX back in 1981 in NYC, they were Suppose to play I believe the RITZ but they CANCELLED. Dear God was ALWAYS played by this DJ LARRY THE DUCK on WLIR in NYC and LONG ISLAND. I wish XTC would comeback as I do ADAM AND THE ANTS. I MISS STUART GODDARD...

One of my friends has just offered me Skylarking for Christmas, I thought that English Settlement was their best but this one is a masterpiece (like Prefab Sprout's "jordan the come-back"), my favourite track is the wonderful That's Really Super, Supergirl

http://www.youtube.com/wa...1ws8trjL0I Skylarking is my favorite XTC album, too. I know that producer Todd Rundgren and Andy Partridge almost came to blows over recording the album- - but hey, maybe that friction helped make it a masterpiece..... ...and I Love Prefab's "Jordan: The Comeback", too! ... Nice set!
When I came to L.A. in 1980 and was trying to get the lay of the musical landscape, they were one of the handful of artists I heard (during my daily force-feeding of KROQ) that sounded like they had something under the cap. Making Plans for Nigel & Generals and Majors got quite a bit of play on that station. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. No, Skylarking was in in '86 ("Dear God" was originally only a B-side, it was added to a later version of the American pressing, after it became a college radio hit). That was followed by Oranges and Lemons in 1989, Nonesuch, in 1991, Apple Venus (1999), and then Wasp Star(2000), their last studio album. ... XTC is a perfect example of how sales alone are such a fleeting barometer.
To me they are only one level below The Beatles -- but to go by popularity, they would seem a million miles apart.

I remember I had this song stuck in my head for years but always asked about it here or there but never got an answer. Finally found it. I thought this was a huge hit because MTV played it at the time and I heard it on radio as well. Great song. I want to buy that album some day!

2 of my others favourites XTC's songs are Scarecrow people on their Oranges & Lemons album and The ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead:
Oh my oh my oh! Doesnt it make you want to cry oh?
