To me, there are 3 versions of U2.

Political/Social: October thru Joshua Tree/Rattle & Hum
Electronic: Achtung Baby/Zooropa/Pop

and then the last two CDs (ATYCLB and HTDAAB) which have bordered on Adult Contemporary.

Here's hoping a return to the first two sounds.

spit it out!

He thinks it sounds a bit like a Peter Murphy/ Will.I.am collaboration when they're both on acid.

well, you know lol

seriously, i expected so much from earthling but i was just really
disappointed with it. it's just a mess imo. i can't make heads or
tails of it, and that's coming from someone who thinks outside #1
is a very transparant and lovely album, lol.

To answer just the above question, not really.

I bought that "Atomic Bomb" album but never really got into it.
The only other release I own is "Achtung Baby". I just wish they had a full set with all their singles. Those two sets leave a bit to be desired (and "Singles" was just bewildering and far to current cash in).

Johnny Cash sings on a Zooropa track.

Solo, Bono has dueted with a lot of people - including Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige, and Michael Hutchence.

"Earthling" was a great album and better than anything U2 put out post Achtung Baby. "All That You Can't Leave Behind" had some good songs but it was pretty pedestrian as a U2 record goes.

Achtung Baby
All That You Can't Leave Behind
The Unforgettable Fire
Joshua Tree

My U2 favorites

Cosign to all that other than Atomic Bomb being top 4.

So your faves are their 3 main 90's releases?

in this order...

achtung, baby
pop
zooropa
atomic bomb

I skipped 'Pop', and 'Zooropa.'

I think I have one song between the two albums.

That depends on what you want or expect U2 to sound like.

My roomate in the Air Force was a huge U2 fan, and he hated the albums.
I was a fair weather U2 fan, so I thought they were innovative and really clever.

Zooropa is one of my favorite U2 albums, and I love the contrast between that and albums like Boy or even The Joshua Tree.
