Elements of Life, by DJ Tiesto, is a GREAT song!

I love electronic music but Trance is the crappiest form of music on the face of the planet. It just seems to have no Funk, no soul and no cool bass-lines at all. Funny how guys like Tiesto rake in the cash with mediocre trash while legends like Derrick May, Robert Hood, Juan Atkins and the rest of the Underground Resistance/Detroit crew go under the radar. Oh well such is the music industry.

It's funny, I thought the name of the thread was "DJ Tiesto Appreciation". confused But, to each their own.

I personally don't like Tiesto's productions and sets at all.
The absolute opposite of soul = tiesto.
Same goes for his fellow dutch dj's armin van buren & ferry corsten.
Sorry Kenlacam, but I share fiend's opinion.
When it comes to house music (even though tiesto makes and plays trance/proggy trance) i love music by Tiger Stripes, Laurent Garnier, Ben Watts, Luciano, Boys Noize & Dennis Ferrer etc etc.
To each it's own...

Sure, sure, sure.....whenever a DJ makes it to the top there is reason to piss on them, right???
The people whining and pissing on Tiesto and his likes have obviously not been to one of their shows. I read words like 'funk' & 'soul'.....disbelief you people just don't get it!

Don't listen to the records.....go to a live DJ-set and tell me afterwards that you didn't move.....cuz you'd be lying! nod

Sadly I live here in the UK and have been subjected to a Tiesto set (a friends girlfriends birthday night out) and sorry but it was the crappiest music I'd heard in my entire life.

Give me some live Dubstep by the likes of Goth Trad, Skream and Distance and i'm in my element.....but that Trance stuff is just absolute pish. America is lucky they managed to sidestep the Trance genre.....not so lucky here in Europe & the UK sadly.

I'm not a big Tiesto-fan but there is some stuff I like. Having seen him spin the wheels live a couple of times, I can say that the man can put up a show and live up a crowd. People come here and talk about 'soul' or 'funk', they clearly don't get it! Tiesto makes music to go wild on for hours, it is not likely you play his music while you're at work or something.
I like his 'In Search Of Sunrise'-series which come out every year, they provide a nice summer-soundtrack! Great music to drive your car on!
Look, the guy has been voted best DJ many times, sold millions of records and DJ'd for millions of people.....he must be doing something right!

Same goes for Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten!

I HAVE seen Tiesto play, several times. He's an amazing DJ, props for what he does to a crowd.
I just don't dig his music.
I'm a dj myself, I play house-music. If you looked at the artists I mentioned you would clearly see that I DO know what I'm talkin about if YOU only had a clue...
Anyhow, as i said... To me Tiesto is the direct opposite of soul.
With soul i don;t mean motown, I'm talkin about music with soul.
Tiesto trance is just cold lifeless high pitched cheesy-ass commercial anthem BS with no groove to it.
Sorry for the bashing as this is a Tiesto appreciation thread.

explain why this guy is selling millions & millions of records and has millions of people attending his shows to have agreat time & freak out?

This site is full of music-snobs that are just not down with progression.....electronic has always had a bad rep on here and has not been labelled as music....now that's utter bullshit!

People should open up more, you find out that there is definitely emotion that comes from this music.....imagine the sun coming up at the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan's beach (Thailand) after a night of partying, Tiesto's music/DJ-ing is definitely adding to stuff like that.....I can honestly say that I have more memories to some of Tiesto's music than I have to the crap that Prince has brought out lately!

Because there are millions of people out there with no taste in music. That's why.
Hell, trance is not even music, it's just... noise.

Progression?!? Surely you jest!
Trance is progression? That's like if Albert Einstein would have suddenly started acting and thinking like a retared four year old child. How progressive is that?!?

Look, if this is what you want to listen to, then by all means, go ahead. I'm not here to tell you what you can and can not listen to. All I'm saying is, calling this nonsensical, monotonic crapfest music is just ridiculous.

There's tons of superb electronic music. Trance isn't isn't one of them though. It's just mind numbingly boring synthetic bangin pish with absolutely no funk or soul. Now when I say funk or soul I don't mean the genres. Also Trance has no PHATT devastatingly brutal Dubwise bass-lines?

Here are a number of "electronic" DJ/Producers who kick major ass!!!

Amon Tobin
Squarepusher
Distance
Derrick May
Carl Craig
Juan Atkins
Robert Hood
Mad Mike & the rest of the Underground Resistance crew
DJ Rolando
DJ Marky
Andy C
DJ Assault
Skream
Goth Trad
Benga
Aphrodite
Boxcutter
Bug
Chase & Status
Pinch & the thousands of other Dubstep producers coming up!
DJ Marlboro & the rest of the Favela Bail Funk Carioca crews down Brazil way...
Switch
Lemon D & Dillinja
Diplo
Freq Nasty
DJ Patife
Radioclit

And honestly there are a million others.....then you have the millions of insanely good Hip Hop DJ's such as.....

DJ Zeph (Of Zeph & Azeem fame)
Coldcut
Q-Tip
DJ Premier
Skitz (Hip Hop producer legend....not to be mistaken for the other crappy cheese DJ Skitz)
Kid Koala
Mixmaster Mike
Cut Chemist
Nu-Mark
Marley Marl
Z-Trip
Fat Jack
Mumbles
The Spank Rock crew
DJ Vadim
Part 2
Grandmaster Flash
and of course.....DJ KOOL HERC & the millions of other nameless turntablists out there who rock the house without a record deal.

Credit be to Abierman for sticking up for the type of music she/he likes though.

lol like I said before, I am not a big Tiesto-fan eventhough I like some of his stuff. What I am trying to say is that I think it is not fair to dismiss a type of music (Trance in this case) because you think it has no 'soul' or 'funk'. Tiesto makes a lot of people move, how can these people be wrong? It is probably the most popular dance-genre...

Trance has no PHATT brutal dubwise basslines and that's why it's trance.....you don't like it, a lot of people do.....not need to put it down like trash.....

if you want to talk about garbage in the dance-scene, listen to this:

Millions of kids bought Tiesticles music.
So what?
What about all the people that DIDNT buy his music?
How can 6.5 BILLION people be wrong?
Come on now...

Trance as a genre hasn't progressed since Jam & Spoon remixed The Age of love.
Or since Sasha mixed the Renaissance cd's. It only has been going downhill from there.
Since then Trance has progressed into what it has been since 1997-1998 till now.
NO PROGRESSION!
Funny that around the same time dj's like Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten and a little later Armin became big. Milking a success-formula until it's dead.

Same thing will happen (is happening) to Electro House.
DJ's/producers like Deadmau5 will be the new "Tiesto"
Very succesfull but seen as the industry as sell-outs.
Milking the success-formula until it's dead once again.
There's so much horrible sh!t being released, it's hard (for the public) to see the real gems.
Not even mentioning the bullsh!t people like Bob Sinclar and Yves Larock are putting out.
I used to like Bob Sinclar around his "paradise" era. Now his stuff sounds like Crooklyn Crew featuring fatman scoop.
Anyway... I just think people like Ben Watts, Layo & Bushwacka, Miniloque, Tigerstripes, and DJ Tonka deserve some more attention.
