I can't stand the "uh oh ohs" throughout the song. To me, it makes up for writing a real chorus.

It reminds me of doo wop...it has a memorable melody. I do hate after the bridge the chorus goes off track with the drum beat and it trips over itself.

Question.

Why do all Beyonce uptempos sound like a cheerleader's chant?

No melody. No real instrumentation. Boring shout-outs over and over again.

It's not really what I'd call funny...

But it is true...I guess that's how you get people hooked in...that's what makes a song catchy and memorable...

[Edited 11/19/08 7:21am]

It's hard not to make music for HS and College kids when she has their same mentality. Sure, she's in her mid-20s, but when you see her in interviews, does she really act as if she's a "WOMAN"? When Janet was in her 20s, Joe groomed her on how to present herself as a lady. Beyonce hasn't been trained like that (of course, her mother doesn't act very lady-like all of the time either). They both tend to act ghetto-fabulous at times.

I must say, the idea to make this a 2-disc set is a really ridiculous idea. The standard edition only has 5 songs on disc 1 and 6 on disc 2!! eek That's just pathetic IMO. Its an obvious marketing ploy and a pretensious, arrogant one at that. So I guess in terms of sales they're gonna count each cd as one unit? So that will bring up her sales figures and make it look like it was a success huh? confused

Anyways, here's a couple of funny reviews posted by customers on Amazon.com:

Why two CDs? Why rap?, November 18, 2008
By Shamontiel L. Vaughn "Web Editor, Author, Rev... (Chicago) - See all my reviews

3 stars out of 5

Cons: Please explain to me the logic in wasting a perfectly good CD when you only have six songs on the first one. I understand the concept of showing two different sides of Beyonce/Sasha Fierce, but a line through the songs to show who was the personality singing was just fine. I don't want to carry around two CDs for the same artist from the same album with eleven songs total, so I burned all the songs on my computer and converted them to one CD, which means the two CDs I have now are just taking up space.
lol

And somebody is going to say I'm hating for this one, but WHY OH WHY is she rapping? We have enough rappers who CANNOT rap. I don't need to hear R&B singers who can't rap too. On a Chicago radio station a couple months back, a female deejay was talking about how Beyonce would rap on this album and how she should "stay in her lane." I was driving and thinking, "Hey, give her a chance. Maybe her second-go-round will be better than that God awful 'Kitty Kat' rap she did on the previous album." No such luck! The lyrics are so extremely elementary, and it was a disappointment because by her husband being so strong lyrically, I expected more. She could've let that man either write her rhymes down (regardless of whether he writes lyrics down or not) or taken the time to try to get outside one-syllable rapping. I wasn't feeling the second half of the CD at all, minus "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)." And what's up with "er'where." PLEASE stop mimicking accents you don't have. If that's not the way you usually talk, don't fake it. Bow Wow did it on his last rap album too, and it sounded so goofy. And this whole alias thing was already done by Janet Jackson. Why copycat?

Pros: "I Am" was beautiful. I loved every single song on there. Her voice was strong, vulnerable, truthful, and pleasing to the ear. As usual, Beyonce did what she does best--speak for strong women in and out of relationships and grown women doing their thing. I wish I could've had five more songs like the ones on "I Am" and just included "Single Ladies."

I Am...Making You Pay For A Deluxe Edition That Could've Been a One Disc by Beyoncé, November 18, 2008

Before I start, I'm just gonna say I'm not an amazing reviewer, but I am going to give an honest review.

I am definately not the biggest Beyonce fan by far, as I usually like to stray away from mainstream music as often as I can, being such over processed crap as most of it is. But this is Beyonce we're talking about, she has amazing talent, and an amazing vocal range. Which is why I'm so appalled that she had the audacity to release such an album. It's almost like she's saying, "I'm Beyonce, I'm amazing, and people will jump on anything I create, so why even make an attempt."
I'm one of the idiots who purchased the deluxe album, and after unwrapping it at home and actually checking out the track listing and such, all of these songs could have DEFINATELY fit onto one album. There was nothing deluxe about it.
After listening to the first disc, I almost felt I had to check my stereo to make sure I didn't have the same song on repeat over and over. The entire first disc is nothing but power ballads, that lack just that, power. There was no emotion, they all sounded exactly the same: bland, dull, and over-polished. It made me feel like she went into the studio and just recorded each track to the same intrumental, back to back, and called it a night.

The second disc I'm assuming was supposed to be the disc with club anthems, party songs and such. It had the typical "independent" ladies song, and the typical "boast like a man" song. I forced myself through the whole thing just to say I gave it a shot. Basically the only song worth anything on this entire collection is the song "Single Ladies", which I'm still not bananas about.
Beyonce, you're incredible, but this album was a slap in the face to all of your fans and anyone who even mildly liked you. Giving it two stars is generous, and I wasn't in the mood.

It definately seems like I'm bashing Beyonce in this review, but I'm not bashing her, I'm bashing her feeble effort in this album release. I'm sure she'll notice the poor feedback from this cd and the next will be incredible. She should definately take her time and create an album with songs that have some staying power. Because if there ever was a Beyonce album to forget in the dust it's definately this one.

Meh...

This album didnt even leave me wanting to play it in the car afterwards. It is cool, but stuff like Video Phone and Diva is just ...atrocious and embarassing...her trying too hard to be something she is not. I was very upset by the 2nd disc. The single and 2 other songs were the only ones I was feeling.

Disc one was ok to listen to also. I thought Ave Maria was very beautiful and showed a part of her voice I never heard, vulnerability.

However its not as edgy and risk taking as B*Day, however much more than Dangerously In Love.

I am looking forward to the video anthology that will come out soon. And I will download the songs I couldnt get when I get my dumb computer fixed.

to be honest only like 2 or 3 songs from the album sound decent.

Single ladies and Sweet Dreams. I mean the slow songs are EXTREMELY BLANE, and BORING, and FORGETTABLE. and GHETTO.

This music is something that will probably NOT reach a large range of people or even a large age range. Beyonce truely limits herself with this hip hop and blane crap. The song Diva is so oh my goosh its bad.

You know what i noticed she is SOOO ARROGANT, its annoying, always has a song about how she is great, a diva, baddest women, and the best. ITS LIKE she is trying to tell and convince everyone she is the greatness. and a true DIVA, LEGEND, ICON, does NOT have to do that.

She is dellusional when it comes to music, she thinks because she likes it everyone else will.

maybe im being to harsh but oh well

I felt it was very forced...and her ego shows.

Well, I for one, will not be buying or downloading this album. That "Single Ladies" song makes me puke a little in my mouth. Her writing is still so underdeveloped...in my opinion. I do like the "Like a Boy" song, but not enough to change my opinion on "Beyonce", "Sasha Fierce" or whatever the hell she wants to call herself.

I'd like to see an album where she focuses on her songwriting and actually write something that is mature. She seems to write for the radio.

One another note: I'd also like to see her without that lace front she so loves to wear neutral

I think that she is a pretty good singer. "Singer Ladies", has that old "church Call and response", thing about it, that's why I am digging it. The thing is, her voice is to big to contain on a record. I have seen her live 3 times and to me, she is much better live then on record.

Oh ok, hopefully she didnt make those songs extra long then lol! But what is the purpose of releasing both a deluxe edition and a standard edition at the same time? Its really a slap in the face to her fans IMO because on the deluxe edition you're getting 5 more songs, and by some of the reviews I've read, those five songs are better than the majority of the whole 2-cd set eek So why make your fans pay more for a "deluxe" edition when she should've just released the deluxe edition and scrapped the standard edition altogether instead? Oh yeah, that's right, its all about making those bucks rolleyes I guess Beyonce didnt want to wait until about a year later to issue the deluxe edition as a re-release--which she could have done. Whoever made this decision to release these 2 sets at the same time probably thought it was a great marketing and PR idea, but it could backfire instead. Sounds like people are better off getting the deluxe instead of standard edition.

each cd has to be 60 mins in length to count as a seperate cd.

Yeah since the deluxe is no where to be found...I heard the extra songs on youtube...meh..."Hello" didnt even sounded like it belonged on the Sha Sha Fierce cd.

Interesting. That sounds like that could be a marketing ploy in itself...releasing both a standard and deluxe edition simultaneously, and then have the deluxe edition either not be sold at stores or at limited stores--causing her fans to purchase the standard edition instead and then they either hear some of the much better extra songs from the deluxe edition or hear about the other songs and how good they're supposed to be--which then of course makes her fans wanna go out and purchase her deluxe edition even after they've bought the standard one rolleyes What a ripoff to her fans. Releasing 2 editions of the same cd at the same time as well as splitting 11-16 songs onto 2 cds is excessive, ridiculous and greedy. disbelief

Her fans are better off at getting the deluxe edition, that way they wont be getting cheated out of those extra 5 songs. You can purchase her deluxe ed. at Amazon.com for $14.99.

I prefer the Beyonce disc over the Sasha one. I have a problem with how the album flows though, or should I say, cuts off and then switching to another disc? But they don't even flow well either though that doesn't mean the material is bad

and actually I prefer the standard version, I didn't like all the extra songs.

Yeah, if there were more songs like Sweet Dreams on Shasha and the like I think it would have made a difference...she didnt step out of her boundaries too mch from r&b hip hop...which is ok, but with such a egotistical disc one would think that she would want to achieve some type of musical goal too.
