Has An Elton John thread been done before? Your fave Elton John songs?

Indeed, there are rarely Elton John threads...
I'm not a fan of Elton's. I like his ballads though. My faves are Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me and Idol. I never would no them without George Michael, who did wonderful covers. | |

i know elton john mainly because of the covers other people did
of his songs. i liked most of his singles through the 80's and early 90's but i don't think i've ever bought any of his albums. lately i've been listening a lot to sinead's cover of "sacrifice" which i thought was a very beautiful song. love "daniel" and most of his 70's stuff now. actually, i really should get a good overview disc or box. what could you recommend me? and true love lives on lollipops and crisps | |

I liked Elton when he was more rockish, but when he went adult contemporary he bores the shit out of me.

Cant find the thread, but i will re-create some of what i posted from that thread.
One thing i know that i pointed out was just the massive output during his "commercial/mainstream" period, basically this is what artists call their honeymoon period, where the masses want everything of yours. For Elton his output is staggering, he had 17 albums in a little over 5 years, and this was during that period, but it was not only that, he was touring constantly too. By the time was 33 he was releasing his 21st album, hence the "21 at 33" cd that he released. But the record that to me is the most staggering, and regardless what you think of Elton it will never be broken, the record of having at least ONE TOP 40 song in every year from 1969-1999, aa 30 year span, in most of those years he had more, but just the fact that he was able to stay within "radios playlists" for 30 years, and these are the main chart entries, not AC or MOR charts. I dont care who comes out now and has HITS and "sells" there aint no way they are touching that record. And contrary to what people may think, Elton's albums didnt "suck" in the 80's. True he had some "misses" with albums like "leather jackets" (awful) but he had alot of "gems" in those 80's albums. I read he's the most charitable celebrity in the UK. And do you know who comes second? George Michael. He gave the proceeds for Last Christmas (and still does), Too Funky, Happy, Killer, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, etc... all for charity away. And the best thing: Unlike Michael Jackson, who lets his generousity include in the Guiness Book, Elton and George don't talk often about their charity work. | |

Though Taupin and Elton have never written a song in the same room together EVER, they are on the same page. This 4-disc box set, "To Be Continued...", makes an incredibly persuasive argument for Elton John being considered one of the few musical legends of the 20th century.
