Kids and Crackheads: Does Anyone Really Think This Is A Good Mix?

A few months ago I was listening to something someone was playing online in the backround in my office. I coldn't see it, but I heard it, and it sounded really great. It was a young girl of 11 or 12 covering an Alicia Keys song, and while I didn't get a look at her, from audio only her voice was lovely and very impressive to be so young.

Fast forward a few months later. A friend sends me a youtube of some child she saw singing live recently who apparently had some cracked out "auntie" having nervous breakdowns between sets. This video isn't from the gig, but from a home made video of her singing with her elder shortly after said elder, in a bra, daisy dukes, and do rag, takes a swig from a fifth of dark liquor. Lo and behold if the voice is not from this sweet girl somebody was playing in the office a while back, and if her drunk ass guardian was none other than Amy Crackhouse. The video also ends with Winehouse making remarks to none other than Peter, who I will presume is Pete whatshisname-who-gets-arrested-every-week-cause-he-can't-put-down-the-crackpipe of the Babyshambles.

What I find so troubling here is not only the lengths to which people go to enable others in dysfunction and disease, but actually the endangerment of a CHILD by allowing her into the environment of her drug addicted Godmother. I don't CARE if that is Winehouse's godchild or not; there is no rationale for why a parent should have a kid in the thick of the madness of addiction. "Family" or not, a parent needs to express to her child that "No, you cannot go see your godmother... WHY??? Because Auntie Alkie and Uncle Crackie are not well and I said you cannot visit them, period confused ". End of story.

When are people going to learn that we create dangerous cycles for years to come based on if we neglect our kids or expose them to traumatic environments mad . Just because her godmother is rich does not mean tht the judgement of this child's parent(s) should not be questioned, and I'm surprised there aren't childrens' authorities that can be called when people know they are exposed to environments like this:

"...everything means noting if I ain't got dionne" my ass hrmph disbelief

At least for this certain moment, all is well. I think music has healing powers.

Bonus beats: I never saw Amy with a guitar before.

The first time I ever saw her perform she played her whole set in a small jazz club in her late teens. She's soooo short the guitar always looks bigger than she is. She's like an elf, even when she's not crack-thin.
