It's official, GnR "Chinese Democracy" coming out Nov. 23, 2008

http://www.rollingstone.c...y-arrives/

With Best Buy Deal in Place, Guns N’ Roses Album Finally Arrives

It’s a day many Guns N’ Roses fans thought would never come: Chinese Democracy, the album Axl Rose has labored over for more than a decade, will finally hit stores on Sunday, November 23rd (a departure from the normal Tuesday record release day). The album will be sold exclusively in Best Buy stores and online at Bestbuy.com and iTunes. A music video is in the works, and the band — in which Rose is the only remaining original member — is expected to tour in 2009, according to a source close to G N’ R. “The music is well worth waiting for,” says Gary Arnold, senior entertainment officer for Best Buy, which began negotiating the deal in 2007. “We’ve all heard the stories about this album, and now everybody gets to hear that it’s real.”

The album’s 14 songs include the poppy “Better,” rocker “Shackler’s Revenge” (featured in the new Rock Band 2), the power ballad “If the World” (which plays in the new film Body of Lies), the anthemic title track and a song called “Scraped” that was previously unknown to fans. “It’s going to be a great rock Christmas,” Arnold says. “I just hope it doesn’t take 14 years for the next one.” BestBuy.com has a listings page up that isn’t taking pre-orders yet but does have the full track list and suggests that there will be several different versions of the album available (or at least a few different covers).

Here's the tracklist:

http://www.bestbuy.com/si...id=1925065

1. Chinese Democracy
2. Shackler's Revenge
3. Better
4. Street Of Dreams
5. If The World
6. There Was A Time
7. Catcher N' The Rye
8. Scraped
9. Riad N' The Bedouins
10. Sorry
11. I.R.S.
12. Madagascar
13. This I Love
14. Prostitute

I've heard a lot of the leaked tracks and I must say that a lot of the leaked
songs are fantastic.

Specifically, "Street Of Dreams" (aka "The Blues") is amazing, "Madagascar" and "If The World" are also incredible. They have a more updated sound and I think a lot of people will be digging this, regardless of whether or not they were GnR fans in the 80's.

EDIT: Check out what I mean:
"Street Of Dreams" (aka "The Blues" ..this song blows me away.)

"Madagascar":

It's too bad no one has put "If The World" on youtube, that's another great one I would have liked to have posted here.

^Not a fan, but very interested in hearing the 1st single. The amount of years this has been in production is just crazy.

Do they know which song will be released first (to radio)?

I don't know which song is the first single.

And I put up those songs because those are 2 of my favorites. They have "rockers" as well but I guess I like the rock ballads.

I´m finding it difficult to keep my expectations low on this 1

I hope Axl Rose gets what he wants out of releasing it

I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

I'm asking truly out of ignorance, not from some rhetorical angle: Are there any songs left on this thing that haven't leaked?

The vocals don't come across very well live. Horrible, in fact.

But I've heard some of the title track (I think it was that) and it sounded like good ol' guns. Not a tedious ballad.

But you know, even that song Street of Dreams had some interesting music behind the horrible screeching.

Wow! Does anybody know Dr. Pepper's response to this??

Reading that setlist it kinda sucks that half of these songs are already known since years!

Aren't the leaks of several titles only live versions? Not studio as they would be on the album?

no, Dutch radio more or less played the whole album this week, all studio-versions.....the thing has leaked alright, which must me a boost for Axl as there is finally reason to believe that this piece of shit is finally coming.....maybe next year! lol

A November release date would indicate that a great number of this album must have been physically manufactured already (that is, if it is indeed true). Given that it's most likely going to exceed over the one million mark at least globally, I don't think they've made terribly small pressings either.

I think the songs are at least better than the more mediocre ones on the Use Your Illusion -albums. I don't think he could do stuff like "November Rain" in 2008 anymore.

Well, he certainly tried.....looking at the video's posted on this thread....

Fact is that he's no way able to come up with an album like 'Appetite...' anymore, it just would not work in 2008 anymore. I still like 'Appetite...' because it brings back good memories from back then, but I don't think that a new album like that would appeal to me right now.

I think the ballads are a bit more laidback and sophisticated (take that last one with a hint of salt) than their signature hits from the early-90s. They're not as overblown as back then, and the melodies do seem to flow over the chord progressions in a bit easier way, as the motives aren't hammered down like hard rock versions of "O Fortuna" (more "Yesterdays", than "Don't Cry" then).

"Catcher" (in the rye) has parts that make me want to sing Queen numbers over them though.

He won't do another Appetite because that was done when he listened to other peoples' input lol I feel like the whole power ballad thing was Axl, not the others, and if you listen to Velvet Revolver it's more like Appetite than anything Axl is doing (at least the few songs I've heard)

Yea, most of the album is online..lol

Street Of Dreams is really good. I notice his lower voice is really shot.

The production is overdone. He must have been obsessed with it.

IRS is going to be a big rock hit.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!
